Some fair points there Jack. However Johnson seems to see some merit in the competition which maintains my interest, although I wouldn't be dancing in the streets if we won it. Whatever the case it would mean winning a final at Wembley ... ... the Fairs Cup was a two-legged affair against opponents most Mags couldn't spell without Googling it.
Not that bothered about this tin pot cup.. However will most definitely watch the match...paradoxical eh
Not bothered about the cup, but would be nice to win some silverware. Other than Div 3 and Div 1/Championship a couple of times, I've never seen us lift a trophy I don't necessarily think progress in this competition hinders the promotion campaign (we aren't going up anyway) so I'd like to see us play a strong team
Well I still reckon reaching the final a couple of years ago meant, getting distracted, injuries, mental and physical fatigue combined with fixture congestion, was a factor in missing promotion. As for not going up, I probably agree automatic promotion looks difficult atm, but I think we have a good chance of making the play-offs, especially if the new boys make a difference.
If I recall correctly, the fixture congestion was as a result of us postponing games every time we got a few call ups
I agree, just look upon it as a training exercise for the real prize, a place in the Championship, its still very much on imo..
Honestly is this silverware worth winning. Some decry the skunks for winning fairs cup and texaco cup (or whatever). Fair enough it might be a good day out for fans but honestly I could not get a hard on if we won it. Mind I can't get one anyway!!
this is a chance to experiment and go for it 3-5-2 work that midfield all the new players starting, play like Man c and we will win ! that Charlton vs Portsmouth game could be in doubt again pittling down in London as i read. i hope Pompey win to keep us 6th.
Winning this cup is better than not winning it ... ... I was seriously pissed off walking out of Wembley last time.
I think they're cup tied tbh. However their mere presence puts pressure on those in the starting line up. Our Sunday League manager was a smart cookie. He'd turn up with some 6'4" beast who he'd introduce to us a 'potential signing' for centre forward. Our own no. 9 would play a blinder and the beast would never be seen again. It would later transpire he'd just be some mate from his gym who didn't even play football ... ... kept you on your toes though
Me too mate, threw that game away. Always nice to win a Wembley final though ... ... doesn't happen that often in the NE.
