Thats right, and Danny Collins said the kick would or should have been re-taken if we had not scored from it. That second goal of theirs from a free kick given to them, for a foul on Gooch, not the first either, gives me little confidence the ref would have spotted the keepers movements, just like he never once spotted throw ins at least two or three yards further up the field every time over the whole game. But we really do have to learn how to deal with this sort of team, the players and the coaches in particular need to prepare more for it, drowning out that foghorn of a manager would be a start. Having said that you have to admire them in a way playing to their strengths, even if it would be more appropriate in a boxing ring that a football pitch.

A game I can watch without feeling the usual knot in my stomach as I have with league games.

I'm not sure it was right in the corner but whatever, it was a good pen and we scored.

Looking at it that way you have a very good point.

In fact the keeper almost dives past the shot which causes him to push the ball to his left for Leadbitter to head in ...

... I actually laughed when I watched it back.

There was a debate about leadership after Saturday's game.

There is an article about Henderson and Liverpool (Guardian) about the W Ham match

The gist of which is, you can hear his wearside voice yelling and instructing his team mates throughout the game. He made several crucial defensive headers as a CB showing versatility and willing to do anything that will help the team. Against a team that is good in the air. Then for Liverpool's last breakaway goal, from a Wham corner he ran the full length of the pitch and was next to Salah, to get the goal if Mo missed.

He defines what leadership on the pitch is all about.

Hes **** man. Loads of our fans said so. Literally used the line “never make a footballer as long as he has a hole in his arse”!!

Klopp said the same as you about him. 20 points clear or something last season and 3-0 up, he played like they needed the next goal to survive and captained the same. Proper leader

Spot on. That Gooch foul, having watched it back numerous times, the ref cheated. There’s no other word. The defender block Gooch off with his arm and dives. It’s at least a yellow card, possible red for denying a goal scoring opportunity. And it’s a free kick against us? Then again, look at the Hull game where the forward left his foot in on the face of Burge in an awful challenge and the keeper wiped out our forward who’d have had an open goal! Neither were given as fouls let alone anything else! Bit of a pattern where we’re concerned.

also had an argument on Twitter on Saturday with someone who said can’t blame the ref as he gave us a penalty. It was stonewall. You can’t let him off with 7 bad decisions just cos he gets one right!!!

This is why we need a captain who can forcibly, but politely, point out these things to the referee.

We gave away a free kick, in their half, which they took in ours ...

... they created a chance from it ffs.

Don't think O'Nien can play full back atm - Johnson says his shoulder isn;t up to taking the throw ins (I know!)

Not bothered about outcome of this match. Obviously it will be interesting to see how new signings perform etc.

Will not be going to Wemberley if we get there even if COVID restrictions are lifted. I honestly could not bring myself to celebrate winning this compettion. (Bit like Skunks 'celebrating' their Fairs Cup success in '69........<applause><cheers>

Much more interested in promotion campaign.

Just see this **** competition as an un necessary distraction

Sorry if this incorrect @RTB but just seen this on a Sunderland FB page, it says that the kick off is 6:45 and not 6:30

    Quite!

I also thought our run to the final of the tin pot cup..was a factor in not getting promoted, cos of being a distraction, physical and mental fatigue and fixture congestion!

great thread again RTB got immersed in that thank you, would also like to thank Parker for his input and explanations as to why, when added to Clockys input it makes for a very interesting read with a lot of permutations. all i know is i want a win by fair means or foul as the fekkers down here should have medals for cheating and diving

That is confusing because it is advertised as 18:30 kickoff on the MKD and SAFC fixture lists

Let’s hope it’ll be on as it’s deep snow here in Barnsley this morning, hoping they don’t have it as bad. Waiting for confirmation before I buy a pass
