  1. Or, you could look at winning at Old Trafford (#assumptions) as giving us a bumper, some margin for error. Ie, winning a game we didn't expect to allows us to lose one we did. Obviously, not ideal and you never want to lose but that's football.

  2. That's a riskier bet from my perspective <laugh>

It's very simple. All we have to do is get more points than those currently below us.

well what i am not saying.... which is why i'd better put it out there now.... is that you don't TRY to win those games. I am not espousing either a moutinho like defend in theose games policy nor a fat sam don't turn up policy.

So... yes by all means winning those games = a bonus, a margin.. or the means to get to 80 points and something more... however with our defense... if we get suarez and sturrdige socring we've a chance in every game but we simply have to take the points in the games where 9/10 times a team in 4th will win.

which is why everyone is DELIGHTED west brom snatched a draw off everton unexpectedly.

yeah tobes would bluster about complexity, unpredictability and carp but i bet he was in at home expecting to win that game and gloat over us being below them today somehow. most of the time top sides beat lesser sides. its two leagues are won! the difference between 4th and 1st is winning 3 out of 4 not 2 out of 4 with scraps.

  8. Man Utd away isn't a game we'd expect to win but we would expect three points from some of the other away games. My point is, if you are saying we get top four by winning our home games then any away game win gives us some leeway.

i'm not saying win homes games i'm saying win the two games v direct rivals and those 9 games which are home or away v lower teams. southampton had a great start they should be lower half... sunderland are on good form for where they are but could be getatable... etc etc..

the utd, game is away but chelsea, newcastle and city are all at home but i say leave those as the bonuses you mention and get after those points v the bottom half. thats the road map i see.

fail v the lower half expect 7th.

  12. Fair enough but I see the games against Chelsea and Man City as "don't lose" games because we're at home and I'd expect three points against Newcastle too. The only game we have where I'd see it as anything is a bonus is our trip to Old Trafford.

all those points can be crucial no question. i would think 3 points historically when newcastle come to town are possible. ever point is as valuable as any other. its just the fact that those would be extremely hard to get while a win away to cardiff is down to grit, effort and getting it to f'n suarez.

Its very hard to think past 4th for me now. I can only see the top 3 continuing to go further away in the next little while with only arsenal coming back towards us.

    4th is the raod map.

if you want a road map to winning the league then thats.... 42 points out of 16 games = 42 out of 48.... do we really think we can win 14 out of 16 games? I think not.

we cannot expect on one thread that 4th could be a record 75points but that 1st will be a record low. 85 points is where i based top off of best case.

so... 4th it is to my mind and thats my road map. sure go win those games but don't kill yourself chasing points there and f up the easier games aorund them.

ie. don't get sent off hacking some guy like hazard down and get 3 match ban... etc

I was washing up after lunch and getting madder and madder because the stuff never seemed to stop. So I thought I'll cheer myself up and shout at MITO - so I did - sorry!

Seriously, I agree with you about our approach. This is truly the first season that I believe we can achieve something and it scares me! I can't even go as far as you by looking at a 4 game spread - one at a time is all I can cope with. One of my major worries is that if we settle on 4th as our objective then we'll miss it. I know I keep saying we CAN win it and I am sure that we have to believe that if we are to ensure that a minimum of 4th is secured.

After that I laid out my arguments above.

I'm getting too old for this <ok><laugh>

Could not agree more, better still this should be our blue print for the season, as in take all points from those we would hope to beat, anything else is a plus.
But its a funny old game...
