I think we're now 5 points better off with the same fixtures than last season?

Hmm I think a lot higher than that at least 7 I would think? We barely had 7 points after like 6 games last year!!

Sorry I'm not sure quite how to word it! I mean from the same fixtures as last season we're 5 points better off, e.g. beat West Brom today and didn't last year.

Ya, WBA beat our asses last year. It was not fun at all. Especially the one at Anfield! Just fell to pieces.

Arsenal and Everton away. WBA and Fulham home...... What is the expectant total there? Already have 3...... I would shoot for 7 but that Everton and Arsenal games are going to be tricky, not like in recent years.

Nothing less than 6 is acceptable really, grab what you can away from home and move on to the next set. But we MUST beat Fulham.

I think it was when Joe Cole signed, there was questions about Mourinho and what he said to the players to get the league title under their belt, etc. It was something of the effect of outside the top 4 ( at that time) you HAVE to get maximum points from the teams below you or the ones you are expected to beat. If you do that you get around that 70+ mark..... CL guarenteed. Then you get points from the top teams and that helps get you closer to the league.

Sounds simple but nothing is that way but the thought process rings true though.

6 minimum. But yeah, 7 would be decent.

By the way, we're 10 points better of now than at the same stage last season. That's crazy!

We had a pretty tough start last season but those tough games were at home! It wasn't until about Jan that we really picked up, even before we got Sturridge and Suarez.

Not sure we have had a total game yet, either a half or about 3/4 of the game good but still patchy. Part of it is the personnel change, change in tactics, etc I get that but getting the points while this is going on is good.

    Team This Season Last Season
    Stoke @ home 3 points 1 point
Villa away 3 points 3 points
    United @ home 3 points 0 points
Swansea away 1 point 1 point
    Saints @ home 0 points 3 points
Sunderland away 3 points 1 point
Palace @ home 3 points 1 point (v West Ham who were play off winners)
Newcastle away 1 point 3 points
West Brom @ home 3 points 0 points

    Total 20 13

Means on corresponding fixtures we're 7 points up so far this season. Not a bad start in the first 9 games!

nice work. I was meaning to ask about this today.

we have been told that we have been untested thus far and that we will only be tested this weekend for the first time. such thinking would indicate that our result thus far are taken for granted.... yet your work shows we have improved. 7 out of 9 could be projected into a 20 point gain over the full season. That is a big swing in improvement.

In short each game is a test, we can be slightly disappointed with our game v the saints and very disappointed v newcastle in particular... however looking at it i see that after each international we dropped 2 points (swansea and newcastle) and really only had that game v southampton where we just had a bad back 4 pick.

We have improved over these 9 games but we need to now prove something new.... namely playing a REAL ;) top 4 contender and holding our own and then sustaining that over the next 10 games. If we do that we can see the whole mood change, outsiders will look at a club on the up. the name will start to attract better players (sahko and coutinho aside we want no more allens or assaidis do we) rahter than be used to play us off against others.

    Sustain and improve....

now.... we are over the 80 point trend line now. if we lose we will drop below that but still above the 70 point trend. If we lose we would have to go beat fulham and everton to recover to where we are at.

However, draw v arsneal and draw v everton and win v fulham... then we are bang on the 80 point ternd line.

Want to win the league? ... go beat arsenal take 12/12 and right the less than championship form shown in the second block of 4 (7 points)

my predicted points range based on filling in results for the rest of year both pessimistic and optimistic is 72-80 points with mid range prediction being 76 points.

Happy with that, you bet i am...... Gerrez you can put that in the OP? 72-80 with target 76 points MITO predicts?

We got 61 points last season despite having a depleted squad during the first half of the season.

That was a 9 point improvement on the last season, therefore I would naturally expect another improvement of 9 points this season - considering we have a more settled team with Daniel Sturridge and Coutinho playing the whole season (who were the biggest performers/reason why we played a lot better at the end of last season).

Therefore I would be expecting 70 points this year - whether or not that is enough for CL, we'll find out but it would be a very good points total to achieve. Gaining 18 points in just 2 seasons is some achievement in my book. Steady progression. <ok>
