    Sad news this morning at the death of Robin Williams, sad even more so the stigma that is attached to depression. No matter where you are on the social ladder or how famous you may or may not be. Not enough is done for depression and it will continue to claim people into taking their own lives. For the rest i refer you to my signature that most people probably have never noticed.

    Robin Williams gave the world entertainment and laughter, what did it psychologically give him, I'l leave the last word with the departed Mrs Doubtfire;

    Following on from you brb, have a look at this. An extract from a script on Mork and Miondy.

    "Mork & Mindy: In Mork We Trust (#1.21)" (1979)

    Orson: The report, Mork.

    Mork: This week I discovered a terrible disease called loneliness.

    Orson: Do many people on Earth suffer from this disease?

    Mork: Oh yes sir, and how they suffer. One man I know suffers so much he has to take a medication called bourbon, even that doesn't help very much because then he can hear paint dry.

    Orson: Does bed rest help?

    Mork: No because I've heard that sleeping alone is part of the problem. You see, Orson, loneliness is a disease of the spirit. People who have it think that no one cares about them.

    Orson: Do you have any idea why?

    Mork: Yes sir you can count on me. You see, when children are young, they're told not to talk to strangers. When they go to school, they're told not to talk to the person next to them. Finally when they're very old, they're told not to talk to themselves, who's left?

    Orson: Are you saying Earthlings make each other lonely?

    Mork: No sir I'm saying just the opposite. They make themeslves lonely, they're so busy looking out for number one that there's not enough room for two.

    Orson: It's too bad everybody down there can't get together and find a cure.

    Mork: Here's the paradox sir because if they did get together, they wouldn't need one.

    The moral of the story is good but it is seriously flawed.

    absolutely untrue that they are looking out for number one. Look at Robin Williams brought joy and laughter to many a face, I don't call that someone looking out for number one, although i couldn't be sure of his character personally. Unless this is referring to the 'other' people.

    it's like a funeral everyone will turn up when someone is dead, people that have never met for many a years will be there crying their little eyes out...crocodile tears...all because they are all to busy with their lives. Emphasis on always to busy. A lot of suicides are committed, where people never had any indication there was a problem. Although this would be untrue in Robin Williams life.

    there is a massive stigma about depression, the sooner people get over this stigma, the sooner an arm might be able to reach out to the sufferers. I'm not saying all sufferers can be helped but i'm damn sure several more of those lives could have been saved.

    it's like bridge jumpers, holding up queues of traffic while the jumper decides do they, don't they...the reaction from the queue oh get on with it...until they find out it was their very own son, daughter, husband or wife that just jumped.

    the reason the moral of the story is wrong...well it must be wrong, because he failed to find the answers, hence why he's now dead...

    Edited version;

    Orson: It's too bad everybody down there can't get together and find a cure.

    Mork: Here's the paradox sir because if they did get together, they wouldn't need one and i wouldn't now be dead.

    Interesting comments

    I would suggest that when someone is truly depressed they may feel lonely even in the company of those who truly love them. Becoming withdraw from human contact & the inability to recognise their own worth is part of the illness

    I think due to social conforms, or maybe i should say social conditions as the correct term, a lot of people confuse the words loneliness and being alone. A depressed person may choose to be alone, it does not mean they are lonely. People can be social extroverts and the life and souls of a party with countless friends, but they suffer from depressions too, its because the outward going individual is just a cover for the mental darkness struggles that lay within side them.

    They may of course choose to be alone or the illness may remove the motivation/energy to cope with others .... in which case I wouldn't necessarily term it a choice

    Robin Williams wife has released a statement stating he was in the early days of Parkinson Disease, which he had not been ready to share publicly.
