Maybe they want it to stand out from the other 89 minutes? I do agree though. It looks like it's done because they're afraid that some people don't have enough about them to show respect, even for just one minute.
There are plenty of examples of observing a minutes silence at football grounds impeccably, it just needs some clear and concise coordinating over the PA system.
Not quite sure why we need a minute's silence on Saturday. Black armbands for DQPR should suffice. Far too many weepfests generated by snowflakes and soap opera watchers which are slowly devaluing the whole process.

Perhaps more trivially, I listen to talksport quite a bit and Ray was often on there. He came across as a thoroughly decent knowledgeable bloke. So for a minute on Saturday I will think of him and his family. It's called empathy.
