After the magic (or should that be tragic) of the cup, game #28 (27 for our visitors) sees the pussycats of MIllwall come to South Wales and the mecca that is the CCS. The Londoners come to us in 8th place and just 2 points off the play-off spots, but with Gary Rowetts men in mixed form, picking up 8 points from the last 18 on offer and losing their last game out v Middlesbrough away. Despite losing some key players in the summer, Millwall appear to have overcome any shortfalls and with top scorer Zian Flemming being joint 5th on the Championship scoring list with 10 goals to his name, they cannot be taken in the least bit lightly. Earlier in the season the Lions trumped the Bluebirds by a 2-0 scoreline, though the second goal arrived in the 90th minute to give the scoreline a a slightly look in an otherwise even game. Last seasons corresponding fixture saw the Bluebirds run out 3-1 winners with all the goals coming in the second half and all our goals coming from defensive giants Aden Flint (2) and Sean Morrison in front of an 18,000+ crowd at the CCS (not sure we'll be getting close to that figure this weekend). Flinty doing his best mystic Meg impression last season, predicting just how big the gap between the 2 clubs would be this season! Early Bluebirds Team News Mark McGuinness has been confirmed as being available after re-registering with the Bluebirds following the embargo palaver and despite a tough test in midweek against Leeds there don't appear to be any fresh injury concerns meaning that interim boss Dean Whitehead has a full squad to choose from (excepting long term absentees). It would be no surprise to see an in-form McGuinness selected to play, possibly at the expense of Tom Sang who was run ragged in midweek, with Ng moving out to the right flank, vacating the centre back position for the returning loanee. Young Rubin Colwill may also feature having had 45 minutes on Wednesday evening to clear the cobwebs. Could we see a front duo of Etete and Robinson in a bid to take the game to our visitors in the search for some much needed points? Only time will tell. Prutton & Pal Predict Once again (not surprisingly given our recent form) the Sky chaps have predicted a Bluebird defeat, this time by a score of 0-2. The bookies would appear to be of similar mindset, with odds as follows; Home Win 2/1 Draw 21/10 Away Win 29/20 Fun Fact Seven windmills once stood on the western side of the Isle of Dogs, helping to give that part of the island the name ‘Millwall’. The ‘wall’ was in fact a great bank of earth and stones, perhaps dating back to the Roman era and certainly in use by the early Middle Ages. This bank of earth kept the river from flooding the island at high tide, allowing the surrounding land to be cultivated for farmland. Sharing The Love Sadly, after a late finish at work, the only love I have time to share is with Mrs Brizzle (you folks accepted too of course), so to save some time and avoid an angry Bristolian, rather than trawl the archives looking for players to have played for both teams again, I'll re-list the names from the "away" thread and will set the challenge of asking you guys to come up with others not already on the list (it was before my more comprehensive tables, so there should be plenty of scope!!) (OK it's a cop out I know but hey, delegation is an art form in itself right?? ). Ex-player/manager list was; Neil Harris Brian Clark Mark Kennedy Mahlon Romeo Mick McCarthy So, can the Bluebirds turn the tide and lynch the Lions? Will we walk off the pitch as the mane men?? Will the team put in a big performance in front of Big Sam??? Al I know is that it's all getting a bit too depressing now and surely the law of averages says we will pick up 3 points soon???? Oh and it's official, Santa is NOT a Bluebird and I suspect not even real.... (OK, I still believe, JUST, and that's only because I know we are fortunate to be born as Bluebirds). Keep the faith, in Morison/Hudson/Whitehead/Big Sam(???) we trust.... Bloooooooooooobirds!!
The writing is ok I suppose but the real appreciation is to Mrs Brizzle for her patience and understanding. No doubt she is being sympathetic about her old man's football team. Thanks Mrs Brizzle. The importance of this game needs no mention as it's obvious that to start winning is crucial. After the last few games, I want us to get in the faces of the opposition and attack the ball more instead of waiting for it. The skill base is there so let's get the team organised and fired up. Bloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooobirds
Nice one Brizzo (again). Dare I say it that most of us will be spending as much time looking up into the stands and the directors box as towards the pitch?
Here's a few more; Ben Amos Neal Ardley Stephen Bywater And here's one Masky will remember; Vince Jones. Played for City in 1922-23 & 1934
I notice with the Blackpool/Huddersfield game off today, we wont' be in the bottom 3 even if we lose 10-0...........
Cardiff City XI: Allsop; Ng, McGuinness, Kipre, O'Dowda; Wintle, Rinomhota; Philogene, Ojo, Robinson; Etete. Subs: Alnwick, Nelson, Sang, Ralls, Sawyers, Colwill, Davies. Decent enough side. Colwill still not starting, Harris not even on the bench.
TEAM NEWS Cardiff City XI: Allsop; Ng, McGuinness, Kipre, O'Dowda; Wintle, Rinomhota; Philogene, Ojo, Robinson; Etete. Subs: Alnwick, Nelson, Sang, Ralls, Sawyers, Colwill, Davies. EDIT: Beaten to it by Remote by a fraction of a second. Let's hope our strikers are as quick off the mark today!!!
Could be time to tear up all previous plans now as nothing anyone is doing is working is it?? 22 shots but only 4 on target.... I wasn't at the game but those stats aren't great By contrast, the Jacks have just 2 shots on target and manage to bloody score with the first 1 on target
A poor situation when there's nothing to be said that hasn't been said many times before this season. Hey ho. Eighteen games to go to turn it around - somehow.
