My opinion for what it's worth is that it seemed when we went ahead both times the mindset of the team seemed to be that the game was won and that we could sit back deep, absorb any pressure and that would be it. It was only when they equalised for the first time that any intent was shown and we started to attack with a bit more venom. Maybe the team itself thought it was just a matter of turning up for 3 points.
Yes mate great day, but realised after staying of the drink for 2 months, going back on it for the day takes it toll. Funniest thing was that when we got to a pub on the embankment early doors, we sat down for our first beer, 2 OB ran in asking if any of us had seen a fella wearing a grey t shirt in handcuffs recently. After telling them we hadn't they told us that if we do...we should come outside and tell them quickly.......All rather surreal at that earlyish hour
Great to hear Mr Staines In summary did we play well? It looked like minor errors cost us ? A draw at Millwall is always a good point do you think other teams in the top half will fair well at the new den?
I left Millwall on Saturday disappointed that we didn’t win but pleased with how good a side we looked. Some over the top comments on this board about Millwall being a poor side. They aren’t we just made them look like one for large chunks of the game. McDonald, Trotter and Waghorn are 3 very good players and Millwall have twigged that the only prospect of getting at us is to go down the wings. Luckily Simpson and BAE are both very good 1st half our passing was absolutely class, we dominated them and kept the crowd silent, “is this the emirates” and “no noise from the pikey boys” clearly pissed them off a bit. A mistake (was always going to happen) and a ball deflecting back to their striker who would miss that 9 times out of 10 and they nick a draw. Worse bit of the day was the no beer allowed in the ground and being 10 mins late. 14.40 didn’t go till just about 5 to. All on at platform 13 then every sent off and onto platform 12. Felt sorry for the people getting off the train coming in at London Bridge some of them looked terrified. A packed platform chanting all sorts and a few plonkers already well on their way banging on the train as it came in Overall very pleased. Kranjcar is pure class volley just before his goal which hit the post was brilliant. Hoilett needs to do more and Henry still limits us by not doing enough/anything to contribute going forward but and I fully expect us to go to Burnley and win if we play like that.
To be honest i think we did play well, but as i said earlier, after we went ahead both times the team looked like they thought it was won already and sat back far too deep for my liking. As Pete said, during the first half especially we played very well and looked like we could step up a gear if needed (But we never did to kill the game off) Really suprised at how bad the atmosphere was at the New Den now to be honest. I expected raw passion and hatred from the home fans and a tense atmosphere. Instead they didn't really contribute much and to be honest i would quite happily taken my kids for the day out.
