From yesterday's Hootsmon:

FORMER Rangers striker Kenny Miller is reportedly on the verge of returning to Ibrox for a third stint at the club.

Miller, 33, is currently playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer, and is believed to be on a list of transfer targets drawn up by manager Ally McCoist. According to The Sun, a deal to bring the former Celtic and Hibernian striker to Glasgow could be concluded by Thursday.

Rangers’ registration ban ends in September, and the club have already been active in the transfer market. In addition to Miller, Rangers have also been linked with Dundee United striker Jon Daly, and are set to confirm the signing of Queen of the South forward Nicky Clark later today. Clark has scored 41 goals this season, and was voted Division Two’s player of the season.

Last month, reports emerged that then-chief executive Charles Green would block any move for the former Scotland captain, with the player’s high wages and lack of resale value running contrary to the club’s transfer plans. Green has since been removed from his post after using racist language to describe a fellow board member.

Miller has since been revealed to be one of MLS’ highest-paid players, making over $1 million for his role in Vancouver this season. Miller has scored twice this season for the Whitecaps, although he has appeared in just three games.

There are 2 things in the last paragraph which stand out:

If he's making that much in Vancouver, it seems unlikely that Miller (who has a mercenary reputation) would be coming to us at a reasonable rate. Also, why has he only played 3 games this season? In his last spell with us, he was plagued by hamstring injuries and shin splints. We can only assume that he's more prone to these problems as he gets older.

Charles Green's view on this is correct. We should be looking to invest in players who will have some resale value. I've no doubt Miller could do a job for us if he stays fit, but it'd be money straight down the drain. If we do sign him, we should at least limit the financial risk by making it a pay as you play deal.

This <ok>

The budget is ****ed, we're losing £1m a month.

Bringing in faces for faces sake is how we overspend and leave ourselves in a ****load of debt.

McCoist ain't got it, Jum. As much as it pains me to admit that, he's been a terrible appointment and if it wasn't for our off-field issues, he'd have been punted 18 months ago.

Has anybody seen the accounts that shows we are losing £1million a month and has that been going on since Green took over? Also, what were we losing a month beforehand?

Rangers released these accounts.

Who gives a **** what happened before, to continue to lose money means we'll go tits up again.

No, Edge, if we were losing £10million a month beforehand, then that is quite impressive to get it down to just £1million in such a short space of time and are we losing £1million a month every month or is this just the average, which has included one off payments. So, I give a **** what has happened before and what happens today, don't be so short ****ing sighted.

**** off, Monica.

What the oldco was losing before is irrelevant and newco shed it's debt and most of the highly paid players.

Newco starts afresh in monetary terms, we don't have a trading history or an overdraft facility or an abundance of funds to cushion any losses so compare any previous losses incurred by Murray/Whyte with where we find ourselves now is folly.

We are losing the best part of £1m per month. every month, so unless the wage bill gets slashed or we move to a 100,000 stadium which gets filled every second week, then we need to cut our cloth accordingly.

Motherwell finished 2nd in the SPL with guys on £900 a week, yet we're paying Neil Alexander £10k a week to play in SFL3?

How the **** are we managing to lose £1million/month when we've already slashed the wage bill and have averaged 45,000+ for our home games this season?

We're not losing £1m a month. From the summer up until the reports were published we had lost £7m which worked out at an average of £1m a month. Of course that could have been £5m setting up the team and getting new players, staff signed, with a further £2m loss.
