I genuinely wouldn't take that much pleasure from that. Of course, I'd prefer it to be us than someone else, but I wouldn't feel all that much satisfaction in doing it. It wouldn't be a sporting achievement. It would be a financial achievement.
I agree with your preferring a built foundation etc but in reality that hasn’t happened for years. Probably Man U’s group of five (Beckham etc) was the last time. Chelsea bought the PL, Man City bought the PL even Liverpool were buying the title. Yes, Man City are now bringing youngsters through but predominantly bought youngsters and Liverpool have one or two who have come through but to aim for the title we will have to buy them in as Hall’s Geordie Nation aren’t going to win the PL. So, if you work on the premise that to win the PL then you have to buy it then the sooner we start the better. So, let’s aim for the Coutinho’s and similar to get there whilst Jim’s still alive and even Mackem Chippy can celebrate as well.
What is the point of being taken over by the Saudis and then take donkeys years to make a difference. If the club has the money, spend it, new manager, new players, otherwise Steve Bruce may as well be at the helm. Saudis or not, the club will continue to be left behind the elite clubs.
Too right...spend like **** and buy every bit of silverware as quickly as we can before they get fed up, sell up and **** off!
I agree with spending money on quality players if we have the money but I still think it can be done without replacing the first eleven in one go. I don't think Man City or Chelsea ever did that. For me it needs to be done in instalments, though I can see why others see the appeal in just going out and buying the best 25 players available. Despite understanding the appeal, I don't think the latter choice would bring much satisfaction.
I think it will just mirror the models Chelsea and Man City have taken. Hoovering young talent, hoovering up domestic strength and improving manager/coaching, installing a strong spine immediately. Probably a marquee signing or two to lift the place and help with commercial interests. A big influx of players initially, followed by windows of regular activity overhauling squad. It’ll take a few years to jump up even with finance. All the while the infrastructure will be improving for long term health. It’s not really complicated but it’s staying the course and adapting as they go because football is tricky. Its also a deeper landscape than the ones Chelsea and Man C had to break into. That’s if it’s even happening
