His best attributes are his shot stopping (one on ones) and by the looks of it his ability with crosses, something Reina always tends to struggle with and our whole defence struggled with last year. At least he'd provide more stability from set pieces and crosses
Could be a shroud move by BR, We always get shafted when we need a replacement quickly because people know that we're desperate. By getting him early we've ensured that cant happen, I think we've all accepted including LFC that when valdes goes reina will go.
I think he's a good player and if Reina is going then he's a very good replacement. Reina saying he's not going is a strange one as I can't see Mingo agreeing to sit on the bench. We'll find out if Barca are interested in Reina very soon. How much should we get for Reina? I'm thinking 12-15 Million.
could we not get a player as part of the deal(more than likely a prospect), or would everyone rather the cash?
I suppose it depends on the player, it seems we have plenty of potential so it would make sense if we exchanged for a more established player. We need a center back and cover for Lucas, they have nobody that stands out in those positions other than Mascha and I don't really want him back.
I don't know if this has been posted.. "One of the things we're trying to build is a competitive squad," Rodgers told the Daily Express. "Our squad was very thin last year. It's very important we have competition in every position and that wasn't always the case. "Pepe is a fantastic goalkeeper but Simon Mignolet is a player that has done really well. He's also part of an emerging Belgium squad that has come into a golden era." Brendan Rodgers "Pepe and I went out for a meal a couple of months before the end of the season and I told him exactly what we were going to do, which was to provide real competition in that area. "Pepe is a fantastic goalkeeper but Simon Mignolet is a player that has done really well. He's also part of an emerging Belgium squad that has come into a golden era.
Would be excellent to have a real goalkeeping rivalry going on. Would bring the best out of both of them, as they would know BR wouldn't be afraid to change it around if they didn't play well. Unfortunate for Brad Jones, but I think this signing could see him out of the 1st team squad permanently.
I disagree re the competition. For me the only player who should know he is 1st choice is the keeper. Confidence to make his mistakes is required. I reckon Pepe is gone.
As if you'll be signing this lad for £10m+ (in a World cup year) for him to be sat on his arse, right oh Brendan, he's just 'competition' for Reina....
well he wont come out with a quote to drive the price down will he in basically saying he isnt needed.
He could have just chosen to say **** all like.....you haven't even signed the lad yet, so there was no need for him to start blabbering on about it.
What did you expect him to say, "Yeah, we're flogging Reina as soon as Migs comes. Don't want/need him, because of that just offer us half price please." No chance we'd buy a 10mill keeper to sit on the bench or to keep our 100k a week keeper on the bench, but he's hardly gonna go and say that is he?
and what if Reina stays somehow as nobody wants him, or at least for now? at least he has answered that question in its good comp for Reina and keeps both onside for now. hes covered worst case scenario and also created the illusion we don't need to sell, so wont go cheap.
