That midfield yesterday though, wow! Dier, Livermore and Ward-Prowse, the Germans must have been ****ting it.
I bet Henderson is. wait till our boy Harry Winks matures in another few years...bye bye Henderson's international career.
Me too mate. I don't understand the England haters at all, we're English for f**k sake. Mind you, lots of "fans" don't even support their local team.
The thing is that a new system was tried and the players looked good within that system. It doesn't have to be big names, just the right players. Same system as Chelsea use and Marcos Alonso who fits in well. Not a big name but effective. I wasn't keen on Southgate's appointment tbh but he has shown balls to change things. I hope he has the balls to carry on with it.
That all it takes to be critical...why not the optimisim? I think most people are just relieved its not the same tired old crap. This one game was quite promising....lets hope Southgate doesn't have an FA induced brain fart. If the Spurs lads are going to become the pivotal point of this England team, then I'm backing them to the hilt and I'm not massive on international football. So I for one hope Southgate keeps this ideology going of playing to the strengths of the top teams in the PL
You're right. I am not being critical of Southgate, more cautious. It was one game, and it was a friendly. England have never had problems performing in friendlies, or in qualifiers against miniscule countries like Lithuania and Slovenia. It's when they get into the tournaments that they tend to fold like a cheap suit.
Yes, but it's a good sign. At least he's paying attention. I thought that he was quite a **** appointment, but the FA limited themselves drastically, so there wasn't much out there. Nice to see him trying something different and it working fairly well, even if it was a friendly. That's what they're supposed to be for, but other England coaches haven't seen it that way.
So many people are outraged that England fans sung 10 German Bombers in Dortmund. As far as I'm concerned, less than a life time ago Germany flew 8000 planes to try and bomb our country to smithereens. A little song about it won't hurt.
Totally agree with this. I hope he carries on with the formation and players. Keep it as it is for the rest of qualification and future friendlies leading up to the WC.
I thought the performance was full of intent and purpose and far removed from some of the turgid, laboorious crap we endured under Hodgson. My own team proved last season that if you have the right players in the right system they can be extremely effective against individually technically better players - Iceland did that too at the Euros. I thought the movement and pressing was superb and there is no reason that those aspects can't be carried from friendlies to competitive games ... fcuk me - we may even get through a grioup stage at a tournament!
Some really good points there. We seem obsessed with household names, which is great if they are world class but none of them are. Better to have a team of lesser known players than a group of "names" being individuals.
