That's now averaging 2 points per game - Automatic promotion stats It's hard to believe considering the team has not been anything above 2nd gear yet
What's happened to all the anti DF posts. He's no better or worse a head coach than he was 2 months ago.
I like this from the BBC: "In a match between two of the Championship's best defences the lack of clear-cut opportunities was no surprise." Though a fair description, our defensive prowess is still a bit of a surprise to all of us!
Hanley's made a big difference and Gibson has settled in well. Probably our best CB partnership. Godfrey isn't being missed.
Couldn’t agree more. While I’ve sympathy for Rick’s comment, when I look back over the last half dozen matches or so, we really do not offer the opposition much in the way of goal scoring opportunities. Save for penalties. And then we also have the best keeper in the league. So no surprise to me we have top three defence. And I don’t get the heebie jeebies every opposition attack which used to happen last season and even in our promotion season. If we could just be more clinical - a couple of very poor decisions today - we would be walking these matches.
Like Rob, I agree with this, canario. My point was that at the beginning of the season, we all wondered whether Gibson could make a difference. We had to wait until Godfrey was sold to know. In fairness, Ben did a good job in our Championship winning season but his lack of experience was sorely tested in the PL. It's early days, but the Gibson - Hanley partnership is looking very solid since Godfrey left. Yes Gibson did concede a penalty, but to have the luxury of Zimbo coming in to a 3 CB back line to see the match out after our penalty was very encouraging. Sørensen is also growing into the LB cover role, so Xavi may have difficulty getting his place back when fully fit.
Funny season so far. Top of the league but i dont feel weve actually had a full game in which we've looked the real deal yet. Im not complaining, but am already thinking about how we would be doing in the Prem playing as we are now, and its hard to see us gettig many points. TLDR: i hope we go on to improve much more, asthe champ this year looks weak, and the quality gap to the prem looks bigger than before.
That long journey home will be all the sweeter with an away win and being top of the league. Defensively solid, penalty twists, top of the league. Knowing that Boro lad in the video will be fumin' again.
