It was a tactical **** up. A few poor individual performances too but, on the whole, we were hindered by setting up to defend for 70 minutes.

Just seems to be a mentality to not have a go until we're losing , think we're much better suited to playing 352 , instead of trying to get centre midfielders to play out wide , how many games now have mason and henriksen done sod all ?

I have had some sympathy for Mike Phelan before tonight. That selection, tactics and performance was a sackable series of offences, if anyone else wanted the job.

Edit: I don't blame the players from a lack of effort, I just think we have a lack of quality and may as well set up with some more guile and realism and not stick out a lightweight team that is neither hard to beat or effective up top.

It's like we are stuck inbetween, and lost.

Well, we've managed to make Boro and Sunderland look good this season, and that takes some doing!

I understand parking the bus against a side like Chelsea, but against a ****e Boro team who have struggled to win at home all season...?!!

Also, it's beginning to look like Phelan is trying to justify the money he's wasted on certain players - players that shouldn't be starting games!

I agree to an extent but what I can't abide and find absolutely disgraceful is the blatant lack of effort and desire shown by this group of players! It's one thing to get beat but to get beat showing no desire at all is unforgivable

I have to disagree, it was Phelan's selection of the starting eleven combined with the utterly **** tactics that he imposed on them.

The thing you get with the youngsters is enthusiasm and lack of fear we need that big time

Look at bowen compared to henriksen, mason, livermore etc
He made more attempts at runs into space and to recieve the ball then all the mentioned combined

Robertson looked way off the pace you can pick so many things out of that game, seems our supposed better midfielders dont fancy the fight on that showing

Id honestly play tymon, bowen, weir and edwards next game

Two up top we need goals and points and positivity edwards and bowen for me two fearless youngsters who will graft

Dont give a toss about age of the youngsters , when theres no effort or fight from the seniors

The thing is phelan is like the scared coach in waterboy
So same team and formation next game no doubt
