You mean those two games against Arsenal? Great sample size. He kept dropping deep because Bruce probably told them to have 10 men in our penalty area the whole game. Against Ipswich and Birmingham he came on in midfield.
No, it's just in his psyche. He's not a striker, it's probably been drummed into him at Utd. I like him as a player - but he's simply not a striker.
It doesn't matter who tells you he's a striker - look at where he plays when he comes on. There's nothing in his game I have seen to suggest he is remotely a striker. Put it to the vote if you like.
It was a decent all round performance considering our poor results recently, great support from the 1,200 who travelled, but obviously sickening to lose in the last minute. On current form, we've haven't a prayer of top two and I wouldn't fancy us in the play-offs either. Still, I don't mind the Championship and at least we might get a manager who'll try and win all our games, which will be rather refreshing. Without promotion, the chances of the club pushing through the new membership scheme in its current format, are just shy of zero.
What do you reckon the repercussions would be for the squad? Another round of sales in the summer and budget recruitment?
Yes, we might still need to find some form to get into the playoffs! By no means a foregone conclusion that we have an answer to the current goal famine. He's tried various things that aint worked over the last few games.
Pleased I never made the effort now. Having said that the filly I was with last night was left purring
A factor in our recent results is the fact we are viewed as a serious threat, so teams focus more heavily on defence and raise their game than they otherwise might against other teams.
Cruel to lose in injury time like that, but what was Clucas thinking letting them come inside for that cross, schoolboy error. We coach them as youngsters to show them the outside, don't let them inside to cross, then he stands and admires the result. Two heavyweight teams up against each other, you at least need a natural striker/predator on the pitch, M'bro had Rhodes then Nugent, we had 6 midfielders, result they score. Bruce said to Burnsey that the sports science stats told him Abel was tired/leggy and that's why he was rested, what do the stats say about SB's performance I wonder?
Going to be interesting to see if the Allams reinvest in players to push us up or they resign themselves to sticking around in the Championship and look for a lower calibre buyer.
