if we are to believe what the allams tell us, the new manager will be sorted out by the end of THIS week. its amazing really that the media havnt worked out who its going to be, or at least who's even been interviewed, hats off to the allams for keeping it secret.
in relation to the last post - does anyone know if the interviews have been done yet. and wondering how many is on the shortlist
If their telling the truth, it's usually out of the owners hands if names get leaked, there are far too many in-house staff, relatives and friends willing to share the story if there is one.
It looks like the Rodgers to Liverpool thing was just a distraction, it seems Martinez is about to take the Liverpool job, so that's more than likely but Bruce back in at Wigan.
I havent trawled the thread so dont know if this has been mentioned, but I fully believe this is the reason we havent got someone in place right now ie Bruce is biding his time. Not really sticking my neck out I know....
TBH, he'd be mental to take the job - he cant lose at Wigan whereas he cant win at Liverpool simply because, like Roy, he isnt Kenny. I honestly think the only name their fans would accept in Dalglish's place would be Pep.
The Liverpool job is tainted, I wouldn't want to manage them, their fans are too pushy and they expect to win the league despite them having barely any world class players, Suarez is the only world class player if not that, they spent 20mil on Henderson when they could of got really good midfielders with that money
That's precisely why they were stupid to sack Kenny. He's the only manager they would 'tolerate' failure from and if they finished 7th the fans wouldnt protest. Anyone else and the manager may as well have pissed on the dad's chips before shafting his last born daughter.
I think Martinez is about to take up the challenge. I don't think he has a choice, he's already turned down the Villa job last season, his career will falter if he turns down Liverpool as well, he will look like a coward. That being the case the question remains whether Whelan is stringing Bruce along with his comments and wants to get his own back on him for walking out last time, or whether he is already a shoe-in (which I think is the case). All in all I predict Martinez to Liverpool, Bruce to Wigan and we will have to turn to plan B which will probably be Clarke (unfortunately)!
If Martinez stays at Wigan and a reporter ask him why didn't you go to Liverpool, he should turn around and say I'm loyal and I want me and Wigan to succeed, now **** off
Seems to me like no one can get near enough to the Allams to find out anything. No one has a clue, resulting in the erratic odds. I hope they pull a rabbit out the hat. They have to really.
What would happen if we appoint a new manager and come the start of next season we make a few loan signings from United etc etc and a couple of freebies and still don't spend any cash on any PROVEN quality. Would the new manager be sacked for not spending the owners' money just as Nick Barmby was? After all they have said the funds are there for the manager to spend, they wanted to spend £3m on Sharp and pay him £20k, they also wanted to loan in a Premiership striker on £30-£40k. So what if that doesn't happen before the close of the current window?
I'm pretty sure that won't happen and it won't be a problem. I know I've said it loads of times but I don't believe they wanted to make those signings at all, it's such a bold thing to say when we haven't been spending big money at all recently under two different managers.
