Well, Mick has constantly said that 17th in the Premiership will do. Unsurprisingly, with that degree of ambition in the club's THIRD year back in the Premiership, that's exactly where they stand - 17th with Chelsea coming up next and Man. U. soon.

Let's not kid ourselves by saying Wolves are improving, bulding a Premiership squad, or whatever and let's face reality. Whether Wolves have improved as a team or not, they have certainly not done so faster than the Premiership opposition. And that's the point! It is all RELATIVE and other clubs have improved at least as fast, if not faster in many cases. Sadly, we are going nowhere, except probably back to the Championship.

Yesterday, against Everton, Mick said he thought Wolves deserved a draw and blamed the ref. for the fact that they didn't get one. Well, Mick, I saw the match too and, irrespective of the rights and wrongs of the penalty calls, Everton definitely were the better team. Maybe not by a mile, but better nonetheless. On endeavour alone, Wolves may have been worth a point. But endeavour alone is not the only criterion. Class and quality and other factors count for just as much, if not more - and that's where Everton shaded it and had significantly more possession. Moyes was right in his post-match comments, when he said that Everton just about deserved the win.

How can Mick not see the glaring faults in his team? Stearman was a disaster yet again yesterday, left floundering by Drenthe (and others) over and over again. Henry was his usual self - crude. He works hard but lacks any semblance of class and gives the ball away when playing out of defence far too often. Johnson and Berra were (and are) better, but neither are quick and can be exposed by teams better than Everton.

In midfield, there is little imagination and creativity, except for Milijas on a good day. Yesterday, he made a rare start but only to find that he was expected to make creative forward passes to ... err ... well ... who? The overworked and heavily watched Doyle? Jarvis might have been such an option. But Mick didn't pick him. Until much later on, that is. And who was then substituted? Why, Milijas, of course. What utter nonsense, Mick! But, sadly, all too typical.

Finally, what of the Wolves attack? Doyle is seldom less than excellent but is the type of player who can hold the play and the ball to create chances for others. WHAT OTHERS? Sure as hell not Richards and Fletch is more the old-fashioned hard-working barnstormer. Not a suitable strike-partner-match for Doyle - much more the big fella charging into the penalty area to meet crosses from Jarvis. More than a bit predictable at Premiership level!

So, there we have it. Wolves are full of endeavour, graft and, team spirit, sure! They are just not good enough in too many positions. They have glaring defensive weaknesses (they have needed one, if not two, full backs for the last three years), lack the inspiration and creativity needed for Prem. level success in midfield and need a partner for Doyle up front.

Otherwise, they are fine!!! But, as things stand, they will inevitably head back to the Championship, if not this season then next, having utterly failed to establish themselves in the Premiership and, instead, spent three or four successive years simply fighting against relegation.

Some progress that represents! Mick has done great things for the club in getting them into the Premiership. However, facts don't lie and his record as a Premiership manager is one of the worst, if not the worst, in terms of games won, points gathered, etc. Unless his whole ethos changes overnight (which it won't) it is time to think what is unthinkable in some fans' eyes and get in a genuine, proven Premiership manager whilst there is still time to preserve the club's Prem. status. Martin O'Neill anyone? Mark Hughes? If they will come!
