A good manager who has achieved a lot...but you're not comparing apples with apples Middlesboro - Were well funded by Steve Gibson then. He inherited a top class squad with lots of experienced top flight player. He was then allowed to bring in the likes of Reiziger, Hasslebank (full dutch internationals, could we sign the best defender and striker of Holland right now? I think not) and Mark Viduka. Won a league cup and went all the way to the UEFA cup final. Fair play, that's delivering...chased out by the fans. Ask them now whether they should have got rid of him. England - A big, big job. Laudrup has never been given such an opportunity. FC Twente - He delivered their first ever title....but they were well funded and he was expected to challenge. Would be like Laudrup being given the Spurs job and winning the title. Laudrup hasn't had the opportunity yet. Wolfsburg - sacked in 1st season Forest - only lasted 10 games FC Twente again - Sacked in February Derby County - Proving again that he is a good manager McLaren is a good manager (who wouldn't deserve ridicule either) who has achieved....but where he has achieved he was given the resources to compete. Not doing down McLaren, he over achieved at Boro and FC Twente. When Laudrup was given a job where he could compete for the league (Brondby) he did. They both won the League Cup in England but Laudrup did it without star buys, with the smallest club and wage bill in the top flight. McLaren got to a UEFA cup final. Laudrup got 2 smaller, poorer clubs to the latter stages...comparable achievements. Noticeable isn't it that the 2 managers people have come up with are good managers with good reputations and also interesting that Middlesboro fans were chuffed when they got rid of McLaren and are now struggling to get out of the Championship.
