I appreciate this isn't a Cairney thread but I'd play him ahead of Evans,McKenna and Koren in centre mid ( I won't mention Harper ).

Still a young lad and with this apparent new attitude he could be the most important player we have this season .

I just hope he takes the free kicks ahead of Fryatt on Saturday .

I'm not comparing (before anyone starts) but thats all Ashbee did and Cairney has a better range of passing.

I am confused at the amount of centre midfielders/ midfielders in general we have and possible signing another two, there's only so much 'planning for the future' you can do

Cairney is very one paced and that will never change. You can work on a player to better his skills but at 21 Cairney will never have pace. Having said that he does use the ball well and can switch play quickly, he also has a hell of a shot on him, especially at set pieces.

Wou everyone stop going on about lack of pace please. I'm sure he's not even that slow and it's just his style of running that makes him look slow. I can't say I've ever seen his perceived lack of pace been exposed. He's got quick feet and a quick brain and is probably averagely paced. I wouldn't say Lampard, Beckham, Scholes etc were speed demons but they have other attributes that make up for it.

Youv'e got to be kidding Tigerman he's our key midfielder now, as for Bullard outrunning him, think you're on a different planet mate!

Bullard did run more, he would pick up the ball in our own box and you'd find him in their box. He has a good work rate, he just can't tackle. Cairney is hardly our key midfielder. If he was so key why are we bringing in another midfielder that is going to do a similar job to him?

not sure how this turned into a cairney thread.

but take some of englands best ever central midfielders and you'll see they weren't anything special at 20/21 years of age, they had all the right signs of being a great player but some things take time.

can he run our midfield for the next few years and be the influential & creative spark we need ? probably not. will he be in the future ? if we can keep him, i think so.

as it stands cairney can do a job for us now and has bags of potential for a young lad.

hullborn, very well put matey, pointless trying to educate tigerman11145, he is clueless and cant see potential if it sat up and smacked him in the face. We'd have no creativity without Cairney, my player of the campaign already
