Michael Owen; ungrateful, unambitious, mercenary, greedy, old, focused (on the England squad), injury-prone, effortless (literally), slow, boring, over-paid, caring (of horses).

This, plus the fact he kept shushed during the last few weeks of his time when we needed a leader (for £110k a week plus bonuses, helicopters to training and the admiration he was given upon arrival I'd expect him to put in a little more effort.)

The way the fans treated him was disgraceful. Never really behind him apart from his first 10 games. He was never going to make things happen on his own. He needs the service and apart from under Keegan when Barton had his first good spell at the club Owen never had this. Not his fault. Was more dedicated than Martins and Viduka even in the final season.

I knew there were Ashley apologists but Owen apologists as well? <yikes>

And to say the fans were disgraceful to him whilst he was playing for us is a ****ing joke mate. Supported him throughout his 4 year stay but got nowt in return.

Would agree to an extent. Some did support him, quite a few didn't. They never got over the wage thing. He was always gonna be on the receiving end when we went down. There was any number waiting to call him a money grabber.

Useless. But the first half a season he was here he was different class. Always remember the flying volley he did against west brim away. Unfortunately i don't think he was the same player after his broken foot and knee injury. Didn't help playing in a team with butt and Guthrie creating chances for you though

I dont really carry the same sort of hatred some doing regarding Owen.

He was offered the 120k a week... which one of you wouldn't take that kind of money?
Is it really his fault that he kept getting injured? He was just unlucky and unfortunately for him he is now definitely injury prone and any club in their right mind wouldn't touch him because of this.

The thing I do dislike him for is his poor attitude in our relegation season, he really didn't look interested at all for the most part and his performances showed this, the decision to make him captain was seemingly a bad one because not once did I see him urge the team forward or offer a pat on the back to another player, he was always the first one off the pitch and down the tunnel at the end of most games.

Then his comments on twitter saying he would rather sit on the bench at a big club than play week in week out at a mid table club really annoyed me, for a man who supposedly loves the game saying he would rather sit on the bench? Bigger club or not that's just a disgusting attitude to have.

Whether is was "unfortunate circumstances" or not, he was a terrible, terrible purchase. And as a person, he is an utter ****. So full of himself it's unreal and couldnt give a **** about football anymore.

Aye in hindsight he was an awful purchase, but its hardly his fault we paid 17 million for him and offered him ridiculous money, and its not his fault he succumbed to injuries really either.

Judging by what I've heard and seen of him though he is a total **** like no denying that, I just find it strange when people blame him for things that were generally out of his control.

I think he signed for the money, not the club, but was blown away by the welcome and so put the effort in; until he broke his foot. A lot of people say it's not his fault he got injuries. Fair do's the broken foot was part and parcel of the game, but the effort he put in to getting fit for England before Newcastle was a disgrace and ultimately contributed to future injuries. If he had have accepted he would miss the world cup and focused on getting fit for the following season he would still be a player now. He wouldn't have had the recurrence against birmingham and he wouldn't have been on the pitch to blow his knee out. That combination of events soured his taste for football in Newcastle but the money he received should have ensured he still put some effort in but he just didn't give a ****. He was made captain to coax it out of him and that failed too. Nothing was heard from him unless he was harping on about England ambitions. As captain he should have been shouting from the rooftops and geeing up the team to positive results but instead he slithered out the back door and stuck the knife in with his witty comments. He blames Newcastle for his failed career but his attitude is what really ruined it and he knows the medals he wins at man U are off the back of others and so totally hollow. He's already bitter he got turfed out of liverpool before they won the european cup.

Can't believe people are defending him. In our relegation season he was diabolical and looked completely disinterested. You don't even have to be interested, you don't have to give a **** about the fans, just look like you're trying out on the pitch at least to earn the frankly ridiculous money you're being paid.

To hate a player because he's got an injury is stupid, I supported him and backed him when he spent all that time on the treatment table, it was the way he played (bar under Keegan) that made me despise him. He was supposed to be captain, our star player, and he was dropped for one of the most important games in our history against Villa because he was so **** ffs. Spent the entire time on the bench that day not giving a **** and making it quite obvious.

The things he's done and said since he left, some of the footage I've seen of him off the pitch and some of his twitter activity seem to vindicate my belief that the man is a total ****.

He sucks the smeg off the devils cock and I would rather spend a night locked in a coffin with a randy Steve Bruce than say anything complimentary about that little waster.
