The situation he's in at Pompey, if he did even a half-decent job, he'd raise his profile enormously. I wouldn't blame him for leaving if he got offered the West Brom job, but he will have known the Pompey job would be difficult and jumping now would be a real cop-out.

Tbh, When Appleton Joined Pompey i was bit unsure.. But he has done a very good job getting his team in high spirit and getting some great results along the way.., If only they didn't get the -10 point deduction they would of been fine. I genuinely hope they get a buyer, Who can stabilise the club.. and move it forward..., As appleton could easily be out of a job if the Team is liquidated.

The Express was reporting that Appleton's return to WBA was always anticipated and his tenure at PFC was seen as an opportunity to see how capable he was as a a manager. The article seemed confident that Appleton would be poached and outlined his disappointment that Pompey's squad looked like being depleted by 17-18 players. I think he is talented and unlikely to resist the opportunity to manage West Brom where he is known and respected by the players. Looking more grim at Fratton Park....

If WBA were to pay compensation to Pompey, then Appleton would be gone.
He got stitched up by Pompey, and like he said, will have no players next season,so will struggle to stay in League 1,that is indeed if they manage to survive past the summer.
That will leave Pompey probably looking to appoint someone like Lee Bradbury as their next manager.
Who the f**k is laughing now???

I dont get where this "he's done a good job" has come from.

Look at the players he's had to choose from, there is no way they should have been where they were even with -10. Palace got -10 with a worse side and stayed up. Just look at the Premiership/Championship players they had, even after Mullins ect left. Contrast that to peterboro and barnsley.

The Skates are deluded when it comes to managers. Avram makes a nice speech about them, hes "done a good job". Christ, they even thought The Clot was doing "a good job" until he left them. They remind me of the bloke who always thinks he's birds are fit, even if the rest of us know they're ugly old trouts.........

If UnAppy has done a good job, gods knows what a bad job is.

Well, he was highly considered by West Brom and Pompey's performances seemed to pick up after he took up the reins from Cotterill or atleast until the points deduction came into place. I think Appleton was very level headed and certainly had the respect of his players. by and large, his hands were tied towards the end as the better players were taken away from him - difficult for anyone to shine in these circumstances. The Portsmouth fans I work with all rate him highly and he was certainly a change from the more typical PFC amanager who refused to see deficiencies in the team performance. (Stand up Cotterill and Redknapp.)

I saw that quote. Way to take one view and extrapolate it so that in your mind you can claim it be representative of the views of every Portsmouth fan. Almost all Portsmouth fans from what I've seen think Appleton has done a good job in difficult circumstances. To be honest, I'm not even sure if the person making that quote is actually a Portsmouth fan but in fact actually a WUM.

he had some really good players at Portsmouth, shouldn't have been relegated so easily even with -10.
