    So far there has been one goal affected by a refereeing mistake in the first game (the wrongly given penalty), and two in this one (the two wrong offside calls). If this rate continues the final, with 64 such errors, promises to be very entertaining indeed (and the identity of the participants could be surprising).

    By the way, the actual problem is FIFA's insistence on picking refs from a load of minor countries. When a big Euro team plays a big South American one, there's no Asian/African refs experienced enough. The assistants never have to deal with the speed of these players. Easy fix - there should be 3 English teams, 3 German, 2 Italian, 2 Spanish and then a handful of South Americans and others from around the world. The most senior refs do the big games. Done.

    Well at least we know how England will exit the competition now.

    3 disallowed (for being "a bit good") goals against Costa Rica. They will be given a penalty when a player is distracted unfairly by Joe Hart's shimmering hair products. We will complain which Blatter will describe as "another racist attack". He will then be re-elected on this strong, moral stand against the filthy rich imperial monkeys of Engerland.
