Thanks. If you took away the ornate thing which I think is a strap decoration and the Roman coin it's a bloody awful haul but that's the nature of the hobby - dig up loads of crap in the hope you get one or two good bits. You should have seen all the junk that went straight in the bin.
I have a customer who spends his time doing this.Quite honestly I am staggered at the extent of his finds, particularly the amount of coins.Recently he brought three in that he found in the same session, all from widely differing periods. How the hell did people lose so many? He has cases full of them.
I went metal detecting when I was about 13. I really enjoyed it, the thrill of not knowing what you may find. It was a beautiful day as well. I didn't find anything of great interest but enjoyed it.
Romans carried a lot of bronze coins about and a few silver and gold which were worth much much more. Got my coin Identified, it's an Antoninianus of Claudius II Gothicus AD 268-270.
Yes - this is it. That's why I created this thread. I keep meaning to create a website for all this stuff but I can't be ****ed. I do declare all my 300+ years old finds to the PAS as you'll see in my sig and at the rate they record them that Roman coin should be on their site within a decade...
No, tenner maybe. It's not in good condition plus there have been hoards of coins like that found in the tens of thousands.
Pud is so fat that when Stopmeandslapme found ancient Roman coins in his rolls of fat, people thought he was reversing.
Right... prior to binning the bullet cases I grind the corrosion off the bases in order to try to make out the markings, these ones I could read: CP 1941 VII K4 43 G VI K2 1941 VII RG VII GB 1941 VII CP 1942 VII CP 1942 VII CP 1941 VII GB 1941 VII CP 1942 VII K2 1942 W1 CP 43 VII GB 1943 VII GB 1941 VII ? 43 VII CP 1942 VII GB 1942 VII RG 43 VI CP 1942 VII All WWII from a variety of factories, all standard bullets apart from one armour piercing and one tracer. Would love to know what was going on on that field. Here are some handy links to help you identify any bullet cases that you come across: http://enfieldking.tripod.com/enfieldking/id12.html http://home.scarlet.be/p.colmant/303.htm http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...ritish303headstamps &cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk You need to work on your joke writing Webel.
Went to the same field yesterday, the reason I'm interested in that field and particularly one corner of it are the crop marks: please log in to view this image This time I found 2 Roman coins, a possible Roman brooch fragment and 4 pieces of Roman pottery found "eyes only". There's also a medieval mount, pot leg and bird feed holder and a Charles I half groat. I do believe I've discovered a Roman settlement. please log in to view this image
