My mum had the Peter Dawson recording of "The Road To Mandalay" and a small photo of dad in Mandalay in 1937.Peter Dawson was a friend of my dad having met him in Australia. Dad joined the RAF and was posted to Burma for a while before coming back to England to fly as a pilot in the Battle of Britain. Surviving that he was posted to Malta and following that in 1942 was shot down over the Mediterranean flying a Swordfish. His remains were not found although 2 bodies of his crew were washed up on the Italian coast. Mum was 7 months pregnant with me at the time and believed for years he had survived and would come home.He is remembered at El Alamein on a war memorial. Will be in Mandalay for Rememberance Day. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5_M9kTBmug&feature=related ( Peter Dawson recording)
