It depends who you're referring to when it comes to whether individual games are easy wins for the opposition or not. A few of Stoke's 13 losses were to fairly poop teams last season. Taking that into account, for the likes of Sunderland and Newcastle (who have good sides) playing Stoke at home should be one of the easier games of the season. And by the looks of last weeks match, it was. Stoke are a very unique team in that respect. Look at any other team with a **** away record and you'll find their home form isn't much better. It's purely down to them being an overall poor side. Stoke, however, have one of the best home forms in the league, which makes them one of the best teams in the EPL when it comes to away matches. Very hard to beat. On the other hand, with their own away games, Stoke suddenly find themselves as one of the worst teams in the league. You could say they were still "Hard to beat" but with only 3 draws and 3 wins to their 13 losses, it paints a very different picture. Only Wolves were the other team where so many teams took them on at home and came out of it with 3 points. It is a good result, don't get me wrong. Especially after the bad run of form. I just think the way Merson said it is a dig more than a compliment. If it was Villa, Everton or Fulham who beat Stoke 0-4 at home, I doubt it would have been given the tag of "phenomenal result".
I agree with Chappaz that Stoke are poor away, and generally lose a lot. They don't usually get spanked though, and we spanked them. Bear in mind, we played well, but still not our best, we were way better in the second half at Anfield, for example.
Agreed. At least you can laugh at Merson who is IMO a modern day example of "the missing link" Matt the Twat is just a pompous **** who should **** off back to that massive club, Southampton.
Agree mate, yet another example like Souness was as Rangers manager in 1990, of another thick ****ing ex-footballer thinking he's the Einstein of the game. We can all kick a football, the ethics are simple enough to understand, we as fans see what the managers can't half the time so have another drink Merse and **** off. I boxed for 12 years, dosen't make me an expert now but might say my bit after a few sherbets. Stick the fans in the commentary boxes and lets have a proper view eh?
My friend told me that joke when we were 13. I think that was the first time I ever called anyone a ****.
Said it many times before and I'll say it again. The weight a comment or opinion carries depends on the person delivering it. Merson is just an alcoholic gambling ****wit who is scratching a living trying to appear knowledgeable about the game when he isn't. He was a quality player but is too thick, alcohol ridden and pig ignorant to be taken seriously as a pundit. It's a bit like chaps, 5-1 & troll. Thick, pig ignorant and not to be taken seriously. Doesn't stop them talking bollocks though does it?
