If, for example, I make my usual banter about the North London Power-Shift, then you have two choices: (1) ignore it, or (2) respond in a way that does not make a personal attack on me. What you should not do is respond in the manner that has typified your usual responses, namely, by calling me names, making disparaging comments about my character or intelligence. None of that is necessary or warranted.
The best way to test it, G4E, would be for either me or PISKIE to start a thread and to see if either of us wades in with unnecessary personal comments. I am assuming that harmless, non-personal banter would generally be considered appropriate?

To get back on topic then (let's try that) Merson (rent an anti Arsenal/Wenger quote that he is) is wrong, if he said all teams play expansive football when the pressure is off them he is half right. I had the misfortune to see Arsenal play dire turgid football under GG and most people would say that Arsenal try to play expansive football in every game in every situation and that is their weak spot Merson has a big chip on his shoulder about how AW moved him on and that's why he will always be relied on for an anti Arsenal/Wenger quote. for an unbiased opinion from a former player I prefer Alan Smith as he will praise when we play well, criticise when we don't, and he will state the flaws in AW plans
If you think he is anti Arsenal, you should hear his views on Spurs! Predicts us to lose way more times than is likely and takes pleasure when we struggle. If anything your issue is playing expansive football too often (that and trying to walk the ball into the net). You seem to have finally developed a containing game, but it doesn't come naturally to Wenger. Backfired badly against us, but was top draw against City last year. Interesting to see if AW continues with it this season.
The problem is that your interpretation of harmless non personal banter is another persons interpretation of wum, and until you can post without it then we get no where. Why don't you try reading some of the posts PNP and SD and NSIS write as they can discuss all manner of football without a wum. i like a joke (especially practical ones) and I like banter with fans of other teams. My 2 best mates are diehard United fans, and all my other mates support Liverpool,Spurs, West Ham, and Villa (he gets the piss taken from everyone). i think we got lucky with Coq as DM and it wasn't part of any master plan. When we walk the ball into the back of the net it is a joy to behold but when it doesn't come off it is so frustrating. My first home game watching is against Liverpool and I hope that Rodgers is still tinkering with his team

Strangely enough I have never seen you respond like example 1. You get responses like example 2 as you keep wumming rather than using example 1
Not quite like that (he'd never roll over so quickly), but if you turn the joke back on HIAG he will laugh with you. And, unlike Piskie, it's never nasty, or isn't until they get at each other. You may or may not find HIAG funny (I do) but you have to have serious issues if you ever think there is an edge or any nastiness to what he writes. As his v funny example above demonstrates (and I have seen that response from Piskie umpteen times) that is not true of everyone.
That's just an example, of course; but I respond along those kinds of lines all the time - in fact, most of the time. Sure, there are several wum-like themes that I run as part of an on-going stream of banter, but all of it is harmless, and not once do I single out any particular poster or try to turn the joke on them. I despise bullying and bullies. As SD alludes to, I don't expect everyone to "get" or even like my humour, but surely I don't deserve the kind of treatment I get from a certain (albeit, admittedly, small) faction of this site?
In a nutshell What HIAG wants is to wum, and then cry about being attacked when people respond. It's cowardly.
Rodgers seems intent on turning Liverpool into an expensively assembled version of Stoke. As much as we've laughed at Spurs for wasting huge amounts to achieve **** all. Rodgers seems to have taken it to a whole new level. I'm glad we're playing them early in the season as I can't see that team gelling straight away.
We got unlucky against you're last season, purely down to the form of Kane. But you're right that it didn't really work out for us that day, unlike the season before where Rosicky scored that early thunderbolt and then we just shut up shop for 85 mins. We've employed those tactics to good effect at City and Utd and come away with wins. It's largely down to having Coq in there playing DM, so we finally have somebody who can shield the back 4. Overall though, Merson is wrong and you are right, we play expansive football more often than not, and it's something that I think Wenger will use more often next season, especially if we sign another DM this window.
