what do you mean cosi? You can already play xbox or playstation online against friends. Or do you mean doing away with the console and having a virtual console running from the cloud? I dont think that will be so far away. They have already done away with physical media such as books and music and completely ruined those industries so why not the Gaming industry! I know you can get emulators downloaded and play classic games from the snes, Mega drive, N64 etc so it wouldnt be too hard to do, the only problem is bandwidth over the internet as games these days are pretty hefty. EDIT...Or have I overshot the question and you mean when will Xbox and PS be able to play against each other?
Ah yes, your answer shows my question to be rather ignorant. Thanks. I'm not a gamer but I find it interesting. Perhaps I should get into it when I retire (if I ever do!â¦). What I was trying to ask was how long before someone with F1 2011 on an XBOX and someone with F1 2011 on a PS3 will be able to compete against each other; i.e. a person with the same game but a different console?
In that case, never... Too much corporate rivalry though it would be pretty cool if they did, maybe some online games with a team from XBOX vs a team from playstation. Im planning to play games consoles when I retire, Though maybe im from that generation (I used to be able to set up a spectrum sinclaire by my self at the age of 4.... didnt have a clue how to play it though mind). Games consoles maybe will be old fashioned when i retire =/
Technically...it's already possible to play PS3 vs Xbox, with some clever software. Cue geeky explanation.... [NSFW]X Link Kai is free online, and it lets you set up a LAN network between any two consoles, anywhere in the world through the internet, but tricking the consoles into thinking it's a LAN connection. It also reckons it can be used to replace discontinued servers for old games, but when I've tried this I didn't have any luck. I haven't tried it for current gen gaming, but I'd be interested to hear from anyone if they can get it to work. [/NSFW]
