http://www1.skysports.com/formula-1/news/12472/7737715/Mercedes-close-to-quitting-F1- Hopefully it is just a threat to make Bernie give them a seat on the board; which they should have, especially if Red Bull are on it. It would be a huge blow to F1 if Mercedes did pull out, but it is probably (at this stage) just posturing.
I'm partly surprised that each team doesn't have an automatic board seat, and not surprised Bernie wants it as tight as possible to retain ultimate control
I think Bahrain pays significantly more to host a GP than any other race organiser. Do we need two threads to discuss the make-up of the new F1 Board?
Which is why they have a grand prix. It shouldn't get them a spot on the board, I thought F1 didn't want to be involved in the politics, which they now are given the country of Bahrain and the sport are being governed by the same tyrant.
Norbert Haug says they are not pulling out. http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/...tiert-ausstieg-plaene-aus-der-f1-4908009.html
So why would a newspaper and TV channel, owned by the same proprietor, want to peddle a story that might upset discussions over F1's IPO and board make-up?
Every team not offered a place on the board should quit. The Bahrain - Bernie - Murdoch - de Montezemolo mix will only be complete when Briatore puts his filthy finger in. F1 is in this position because Bernie was able to overcome the threat of a breakaway (it's a shame it didn't happen) and to weedle the wires of sabotage into FOTA. Ferrari always wanted it this way.
This and this sums up all I wanted to say in this thread, while I will also echo AG's question about the Bahraini royal family potentially having a place on the board.
Some guy now says it's a done deal and Mercedes will pull out after 2012. http://blog.autoplus.fr/moncet/2012/05/07/coup-de-tonnerre/
I doubt it's true, mainly because The Times, Sky and some guy are the ones claiming it. But if it is true I can't blame them. Mercedes have put a lot of money into F1 over the years (as did Honda, the previous owners of the team that is now Mercedes), and it would be scandalous if that outfit was the only top-tier team without representation on the board.
Perhaps if they paid a younger driver who wants to prove himself, rather than an expensive haz-bean, they could save a few quid and carry on for another few years.
Another opportunity, another bash? The "haz-bean" is working on development with the team, as you can see very clearly they are moving forward step by step. On an individual level, he just has not had the luck early in the season.
