Thanks wiz for bringing me a memory that I was starting to question. Firstly I can remember the old tin shed bit where the Dolman now sits but the almost forgotten childhood memory was from seeing the Georges Beer sign on the back of the stand behind the goal. I had this memory of seeing it from my Dad's bus as we came on to Bedminster Down aboard the #23 from Burnham and Highbridge. Lovely memory that brought joy so thanks again Wiz for the jolt.
When on shift work just after half time the open end exit gate was always unattended and no one to take your money! Used to buy a pie as they were usually packing up... fullprice! guess that is why gate was "open"
I got in for free the last game of the season vs Walsall when we got promoted under Steve Cottrill. We had spent ages trying to get a ticket for that game - I even went up to Walsall to try and get one for the away fans section but to no avail. With no ticket, the wife and I came down from Swindon and arrived mid-way through the second half and mooched around in the car park. Suddenly the gates opened and we snuck in - pretending to go to the toilet so nobody would notice. We arrived at the stand (what is now the Lower Lansdown) in time to see the last goal and the post match celebrations and cup presentations.
