Thank you. I have also now retired. A few loose ends to tie up business wise and that`s it. 50 years work. I`ve earned me rest.
Cheers mate. I was 66 on the 8th. (whatever the worlds clocks and calendars might say) Am I still a mere 65 where you are?
Random fact, you were born on the same day, same year as Ron Tyson from the Temptations. No i'm ahead in time, so you'd be 7 hours older.
And you've earned the best wishes of everyone on the Sunderland board and beyond. Always decent, often funny and a passionate Sunderland supporter ...... all the best Pop
I absolutely loved this show when I was a bairn, and still watch them now if they show repeats.. PS..Happy Birthday grandpops...You are a cracking poster and a top man..
cheers mate. State of the art effects that like. Can you remember the forerunners of this. Torchy, Four Feather Falls, Twizzle and an underwater one?
Not many people realise but Torchy was actually Darren Anderton who played for Spurs and England BTW, I was once thrown out of the Tufty Club for playing with my nuts too often.
I loved Torchy the Battery Boy, and have happy memories of my older sister reading the books to me.. Stingray was the underwater one which was also a cracking show..I also remember the space one Fireball XL5..
forgot about Fireball. apart from tv I can remember squads of us playing footie in the street, sweating buckets and queuing for a drink at the garden hose or the wash house tap on the wall. crawling for miles on hands and knees playing marbles, a jam sarnie in one hand to keep you going till tea time. strewth, we`d have had health & safety in tears. Never came to any harm though.
Watched the Everley Brothers comeback concert in the 80,s last night to get away from yesterdays result, great days the 50,s no telly either.
they were the `get outside & play` days. There was a bunch of about 10 of us. We sometimes got into mischief as all kids do but nothing malicious or nasty. The thing is, if any one of us had a tennis ball there was immediately at least a dozen games we could play.
The first telly in our street was bought for the Coronation, and on the big day the family threw a party in the front garden and everybody in the street had a glimpse of the proceedings through the open front window, the screen was about 5 inches across with a huge magnifying glass in front of the screen, state of the ark technology.
Aye, remember them. Also remember programmes interrupted on a regular basis cos the four foot valves at the BBC packing in.
I reckon every young lad did. By the way, regarding your signature, are you not aware of our victory over Liverpool on the 1988 Mercantile Credit Cup at Wembley? So, your signature is an untruth, strictly speaking like........ but we'll not split hairs. Hope her indoors is on the mend.
I don't even think anyone on Question of Sport would be aware of the Mercantile Cup mate. Besides there couldn't have been that much celebrating, there were only about 15,000 at the match. Anyway, you've put me in me place so I'll change it Our lass isn't too well but she's on the mend, thanks for asking ............. she deserves praise for me dodging a bullet yesterday
Anyway, how old are you lot on here? Every time I log onto the Sunderland board, my ipad sticks of piss. Marina off stingray, I reckon every young lad knocked one out over her. Nowadays, I have one every morning just to get my heart started.
