On ITV on Sunday it showed Stoke and WHU in the 70's playing in a mudbath.

All aspects of football has moved on and not a bad thing but good to have memories.

I hope to be telling my kids about the players of today.

    Your welcome mate! <cheers>

If RIP Bartons Tash has taught us nothing else, and he hasn't, it's that post count is all that matters. Doesn't matter about content, if your thread gets lots of reply's, you are popular!

I grew up supporting NY Cosmos in the States as a kid and almost all the players were foreign. The Cosmos were criticised for employing few Americans as there was a fear that the game in the States wouldn't develop properly or fill the niche market in between NFL, baseball and NBA.

Eventually the entire league went bankrupt.

I think that foreign players bring bags of skill and difference to the English game but developing home grown talent is paramount to the game remaining a success for the future.

OT did you see Cantona on football focus the other week about NY Cosmos.

Seems he would like to follow the Barca way bringing young talent through the ranks.

I saw that and am still shocked that they managed to get someone with the calibre of Cantona to join.

I'd love to see the Cosmos come back to life again :)

Last I was aware; the Cosmos have to convince the MLS that there is space for another franchise in New York and if allowed then all the better.

I spent ages writing a really thought out and measured response, then for some reason it didn't post...Probably for the best!

Good topic and an interesting one to talk about...I believe it comes down to the old 'club Vs country' debate...Would you sacrifice the short term success of your club for long term success of your country?

Most of my favourite players (like Wein) have been foreigners, look at 3 of the clubs biggest cult heros - Spanish, Argentinian and Ivorian! Having said that, I'm very proud to look at a team sheet and see that at one time we can easily play 8 Englishmen and not consider it a weakened side (Harper, Simpson, Taylor, Williamson, Barton, Nolan, Ameobi (citizen) and Best (birth)).

I think the main thing for me, isn't whether or not they're English. It's whether or not they buy into the Geordie mentality...Look Pavel Srnicek, Philipe Albert, Nobby Solano, Tino Asprilla - All adopted Geordies, all got Newcastle United under their skin and all keep coming back to watch us long since their playing days finished! Kevin Nolan is a scouser, but has often said he wants to be, in his own words a 'Geordie legend'!

So in summary, **** England and their team of overpaid primadona mercenary scum bags, as long as we're producing Geordies (adopted or otherwise) I'll be a very happy man!
