Still got his toys in tact so wouldn't be surprised to see one of the Arab lot trying and buy him. Only his 10th run as a 4-y-o...lots more to come I would imagine.
Wohlers record is amazing. Moore just stands and delivers. What a jockey. Red Cadeaux- he bloody loves Flemington. What a gallant effort. Enjoyed getting up- love seeing the Oz live events. The good old days of the Formula 1 when it was held at its proper time for example. Well done those on the winner- no doubts or complaints which is what you want.
Well done Cyc..should have followed you mate...the pressure was on but you delivered! Congrats Bustino and ROTO as well...popular winner on here
Admire Rakti collapsed in the stalls after the race. The screens are around him. It doesn't look good.
Tragic footnote to the race. Awful for connections...having the favourite for the cup and losing their horse.
Absolute shocker. That win in the Caulfield Cup was an amazing effort. It seems as though the horse was agitated before the race.
Very sad aftermath to the Melbourne Cup this year. Condolences to the connections of Admire Rakti. As for the race, think My Ambivalent made a pretty decent gallop and possibly set things up for the horses that truly stayed the distance? Watched the video replay about four times and what a huge bunch of horses were in with a real chance entering the straight. The way Ryan Moore threaded his way through on the winner was, as usual, amazing. He knew exactly what sort of racehorse he had under him. Also, was impressed with Joao Moreira's style of riding; he gave Signoff every chance and his mount ran a big race to finish fourth. Well, got the winner and a fourth, for a second thought I'd managed the R/F, but as Cracker says, "a small profit"! Very small. Congrats to all those who had the win on Protectionist! Great win for Germany and trainer Andreas Wöhler, they do produce some fine racehorses quite frequently of late, and, just to think, the national newspapers and media in general here will hardly give it a mention! It seems to be all football and F1 here. Such is life.
Another up runner Araldo may be in serious trouble. On the way back it seems to have taken fright at the sight of a flag waving child and kicked a fence. The word is that the horse might have broken a cannon bone.
Ryan Moore just oozes confidence whether he's riding the standout horse or an also ran. I just love him. Today was just easy for him. He makes the flat watchable. Protectionist is a class animal and I hope we see him over here at some point.
Interesting that everything I read and everything I heard said Monsun is a source of stamina and this horse will definitely stay. Is that true? Doesn't he normally get 10f-12f horses. I know Estimate is by Monsun but she's different and gets her stamina from her dam. Protectionists's pedigree is wonderful though as the female side gives you Pawneese who was a cracking Oaks winner and then went on to win the King George, while the sire, whether they get 10f or 16f, is a source of toughness (no Northern Dancer in his pedigree at all), which is what German racing is all about. (And Monsun's biggest money-earner up to today? : last year's winner Fiorente, who must now be even more valuable to his owners as a sire, as to whether he'll be any good is another thing).
I agree Bob, I was disappointed he did not stay and fight out the championship with Hughsie as I like an end of season tussle as it can brighten up some quite dismal cards. However' Ryan clearly did the right thing and his pay checks for the huge races he has won will make the accolade of champion jockey irrelevant as everyone knows he is a champ anyway, as is Hughsie. What I love most about Ryan Moore is that you can count on one hand the mistakes he makes in a season. I do not subscribe to the view that you cannot judge a ride unless you are a jockey, it's very easy for an experienced race watcher to recognise a poor ride and poor decision making within any given ride and with some you wonder how they even get mounts, with Moore however it is so rare he does not let the horse achieve his optimum placing due to something he himself has done, and it's this that makes him great in my book. It's very clear what the jocks job is and you can tick off his responsibilities. Did he ride a start and achieve the best place possible for his mount? Did he get the pace correct and make any appropriate adjustment to his position if possible during the race? Did he manoeuvre in time if possible to ensure his passage was clear when wanting to push the button? Did he push at the right time? Was he sufficiently strong in the finish? Watch Ryan Moore with this list and you get an even better appreciation of him.
Stick, the link below shows a billboard protest about a month before the Cup. The property owner wore the wrath of the ad and took down the sign. Animal rights people are now looking at legal options. They wanted the sign to stay. http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/h...d-angers-racing-industry-20141007-10r5ew.html
BBC are shameless in the headlines they are putting up. Horses break legs, it sadly happens. Gets a higher listing on the BBC than the murders in HK. Maybe bankers should be banned?
This is a fine piece of journalism from SMH writer, Peter Hanlon, IMHO: http://www.smh.com.au/sport/horsera...-and-racings-darkest-end-20141104-11guet.html
Dear Animal Rights nutters, We have decided that you are right and that Horse Racing Kills. All of the thoroughbred racehorses in the World will go to dog food, the glue factory, Parisian restaurants or supermarket budget burgers. We will cease breeding any more horses as this activity only exists for racing and future breeding. This industry is clearly more degenerate than prostitution, people trafficking or drugs running but somehow the money has remained clean for a couple of centuries. Please advise us on how you intend to provide gainful employment for the tens of thousands of people around the World who will no longer have a job or prospects for their futures. We await your advice.
