Prince Charles should be forced to bow to a proper hero, who has earned his medals out on the field, such as Paul Scholes.

    What a **** thread.

It got better towards the end, though. Once the author kept out of it.

My granda fought in France in ww1.
When he died we went through his stuff.
We found a German Iron Cross.
As is the norm it was engraved with the soldiers name & service number.
I managed to convince my family that we should try to get it back to the guys relatives.
I wrote to the BMVG, (the German version of the MOD.) quoting the name & number.
A few weeks later I got a letter from them saying they had found his daughter & if I sent it to them they would pass it on.
Three months later I got a lovely letter from the lady thanking me for returning her fathers medal.
I've no idea how my granda got it as he never talked about the war but he did hate the Germans.

Nice touch Bill and must have been rewarding to hear from his family.

This touch by an ex-SS man also shows that acts of kindness bring its own rewards:

The Scottish village left £400,000 by former PoW
3 December 2016 Last updated at 13:07 GMT

Heinrich Steinmeyer was a former German soldier who has left £400,000 to the village of Comrie in Perthshire, where he was held captive as a PoW during World War Two.

Mr Steinmeyer died in 2014 aged 90 and left the money to the village in return for the kindness he was shown there.

George Carson’s father, also called George, was good friends with Heinrich and told the Today programme that this was his way of saying thank you.
