Comparisons have been made with Portsmouth and actually there is something that is overlooked. Portsmouth did the name change the other way.

Portsmouth Football Club, became Portsmouth City Football Club and has now reverted to Portsmouth Football Club again.

At no time have they attempted to use the City element , only the club crest changed.

Posters have stated that Tigers is in common usage, but I do not knw anyone who says "Are you coming to watch Tigers play"
    As posted elsewhere.
Outside of Hull we are simply Hull or Hull City.
Those from Hull use City, or The Tigers
It's always The Tigers and there is a difference.
    We are Hull City...The Tigers.
Whilst I accept to a degree Hull City Tigers, it does not sound right and will never be adopted.

That's an assumption. No re-branded name sounds right immediately, but people gradually become accustomed to them and then they have the ability to compare which they prefer.
It would probably take two or three years for fans to get used to this one and if you then had a poll asking if we / they wanted to return to Hull City AFC the results could easily be very different.

This has been an absolute PR disaster on the part of the Allams. Surely on the eve of a new season - especially this season - we could have done without this kind of distraction. Hopefully none of these off field events will affect performances on the pitch. :(

    It's **** up after **** up.

    The promotion parade row.

The Portugal friendly v Braga **** up

    The German games **** up

Yesterday's crass and clumsy 'news' after a summer of lies and deceit- perfectly timed to **** up Andy Dawson's big day.

How can anyone have confidence in the club's rebranding strategy when they seem to get all the easy parochial stuff so badly wrong????

I agree, we are referred to as The Tigers not Tigers, for me there is an important difference.

From Twitter yesterday, sums it up for me.

Tigers? We're not just Tigers, Leicester are Tigers, Castleford are Tigers. We're Hull City AFC "THE Tigers". #HCAFC #saynotohullcitytigers

I have been a long time backer of our owners & defended them relentlessly when they have been the target of much unfounded criticism on this board.

I have said regularly (& recently regarding this issue) that I have no reason to doubt them as everything they have stated or promised has proved to be right.

The biggest issue I have now is one of trust. Mis-truths have been told & supporters have been mis-led. Previous to this issue the suggestions of mis-leading & mis-truths were merely hearsay. I don't know the way forward from here.

Reading Allam Senior's interview I perceive that the words surrounding his references to his dislike of the word "City" & his insistence that as "City" is a common name within the football community then the name "Hull City" is irrelevant are a head on swipe at the City Council.

I think he petulantly doesn't want the council to benefit from our exposure in the BPL & removing City from our name will somehow work towards achieving this aim.

The generating more money abroad reasoning, I think, is a disguise to shield the real issue which is a now very public vendetta against an inept council. If this is correct then it will be an even harder task to get them to admit they're wrong (which I believe they are) & revert the process.

You can't knock what the Allam's have enabled us to achieve on the pitch -the appointment of SB, promotion and the squad we are putting together is probably beyond what any of us imagined when NB was sacked. However like you say someone is totally cocking things up off the pitch :(

Cheshire - We have had our differences in the past but I do agree with you on this one and if it is right then it makes the possibility of a move to Melton quite a real one, though another issue altogether. Mr Allam has money and is used to getting just what he wants. The Club belongs to him and he will do whatever he likes with it and to hell with anyone else's opinion.

As I say: we've done the really difficult thing that so many other clubs have failed to do - get promoted.

The easy stuff like managing the local council, the local media, talking up the club and its prospects, building bridges in a success-starved city that craves good news?

    Not a chance.

    It's way beyond them.
