Tobes/Drogs/Me....... We are all hypocrites! We don't like it when our favourite players leave but just how many different employers have we worked for?
I reached that stage a while ago which is why I have no emotional attachment to Suarez or whether he stays or goes. I couldn't work up any anger about his summer behaviour - most of which could just be press talk anyway - and rather than find this lack of emotional attachment as a step forward or 'growing up' as you put it, I feel a sense of loss for the 'old days' style of idolising a player. A time long gone now when money and greed wasn't the main driver for players, but ambition and furthering their career horizons - as fans we fully understand that.
You're right Dave, but I think the wages levels have surpassed the point where we can rationalise the supposed 'need' for the progression. I know everything's relative, but once you're into the £2/3m per annum range, does another £1m a year really enrich your life to any tangible extent? Or is it merely greed that drives the desire to grab it at that level?
Just out of interest one club men - Liverpool: Donald McKinlay '10-'29, Ray Lambert '39-'56, Billy Liddell '38-'61, Ronnie Moran '52-'68 Bob Paisley '39-'54, Eddie Spicer '39-'54, Byrne, Carragher, Gerrard Everton: Ted Sagar '29-'53, Labone '58-'71, Hibbert,
There were plenty of others across the spectrum who played at much smaller clubs at the beginning or the end of their careers - but spent the vast majority of their prime years at one club. I mean Southall isn't included there & he hold our most appearances record @ 750! The prime point being, that the kind of loyalty that existed in years gone by, is a rare commodity these days.
Obviously you're right that there are lots of players giving their best years to one club even though they may have played for a dozen or so more clubs in their career. I had no other point to make other than it was interesting because it is, and always has been, very rare to have spent your whole career at one club.
Beat me to it He's backkkkkk!! McNulty truly talks out his ****ing arse, dont suppose he's write an "I was talking bollocks" article Where's eatmyhole, Tobes and all the other Torres is back camp
