Stewart played better last night, yes. What Mclean needs is a goal in the next match - to give him the confidence needed to stick them away regularly. I'm delighted for the lad, but he needs to hit a few more and we all know it.
For me, Mclean is a good player. We would be a lesser team without him. I know he doesn't score loads but i'd have him starting every week because what he does offer the team is enough for me. He is pretty fast and can head, strong and works hard. i do like the guy. He is kind of like a good ***an. :O
You win the least accurate post of the week award. Good luck to Mclean, I hope he continues to perform, but I'm afraid he'll never match the ability of Fryatt.
I thought this after the Ipswich home game (FA Cup) and last night makes me agree. No doubt Matty Fryatt is a better player than McLean in terms of touch, finishing and movement but I honestly think in this system, McLean suits the lone front man role. King was brilliant last night, his running power is awesome but the game suited it. They were coming at us and we murdered them in the space they left behind. Suited Cammy a bit more too. Only disappointment for me was Koren who had another poor game. When he's not scoring, he's not doing a whole lot, he's a bit like Fat Frank in that way.
McLean is mocked purely because of his goals return but for a player who has played about 7 or 8 games up front all season, is 5 goals really that bad? The goals he does score are usually very good finishes, and when he misses it's generally caught pretty sweet but just hit far, far too hard. He's nowhere near as bad as some make out. He and Fryatt both miss chances, but I think this season Fryatt's have been far worse because of the sheer quantity of one-on-ones. That said, neither of them are doing badly at the moment at all. People say we need a striker to fit the system but I think both of them can do the job in this system but require the support from elsewhere.
Maclean lacks finishing ability, Fryatt lacks pace. Every player in this league lacks one element, and that determines what they are - Championship players. If they had everything they'd be Premier League players. It's all relative. As for who should play the lone role Saturday, it has to be the in-form player. At the moment that is Maclean.
King was a lot better but poor touch at times wasted potential goalscoring chances. Their defence just opened up and let us walked through at will, the pace of our front 3 murdered them, and there was always acres of space in midfield to let us run at them, they let us play exactly how we like to and the nice good condition pitch suited our passing style to a tee!! Our pitch seriously needs sorting out last night was solid proof. We could easily have bagged about 5 last night and it still would have been a fair result. McLean offered something Fryatt doesn't up top last night and that was getting onto the end of most clearances, hoofs and holding them up nicely, but mainly good runs behind the defence which in fairness could be down to McLeans extra yard of pace which makes them more likely to come off more often.
Indeed. A No Brainer really. Fryatt can have another rest and why rush Brady back ? No need. Happy days.
Yes Stewart was back to something like his best and King also had the measure of Cardiffs defence. ADD those to Mcleans work rate and the front 3 were very very good. Stewart was helped by fans who cheered him on and not slagged him off. Pity the home fans cannot take note.
Having listened to the game last night I am really looking forward to watching the highlights on Tigerplayer to see if it looks as good as it sounded. Just amazing how a win can lift everyone's spirit though I must confess I didn't relax until we were 3 up. Would love to see that kind of performance at the KC but like everyone else I just wonder how much the bad state of the pitch contributes to our game. Glad that Stewart had a better game and King sounded like he had some really good runs. The City supporters could be heard quite well singing away. Bet Nick couldn't wait to talk to Burnsie last night for a change.
Yes it was every bit as good and more from what you post above. As for Nick, well he did say that he had alot of time as The Drug Squad - anti doping crew were present.
Oh my full respect to the fans there last night too. Not just for the journey but all I could hear on the radio was either Barmby Army or We score when we want to. I gather the Cardiff fans were also joining in our songs? Any We hate TWS songs too I missed?? But yeah, was one of those nights that make the last 40+ years feel worth it.
Did no one here the rendition of have you ever seen a tiger shag a sheep? Or the national anthem or England chants?
You met your sister on Jeremy Kyle was a popular song. But Cardiff were actually singing Barmy Army. Sounds so similar to one of our songs.
Both players' goalscoring record for City Fryatt - 1 goal every 3 games on average McLean - 1 goal every 7 games on average
So long as one of them scores goals from now to the end of the season then thats what counts right now
