There is always far too much idle gossip about managerial hopefuls, moves, mainly generated by journos wanting our attention or fan groups picking up on latest trending managerial pushes, resignations, scandals etc.

McK finds himself in an ideal first managerial post, with lots to prove, with superb backing, a changed Club ethos, a terrific bunch of players, a marvellous proud Club History, and hey, the best supporters in the country, playing to a ridiculous crowd of over 25,000 most games.

And he is enjoying it all, with huge respect from the players too.

Much to prove by getting us out of L1 first, on target there - then climbing thru the ranks in the Championship maybe after 2 more seasons with yet more top quality players. Lift-Off to Premiership and who knows what will happen there. Look at other 'minnows' in the top 10. IMO, it will only be when Ipswich are battling in the Premership, punching above our weight that AN Other club will be tempting for him in say, 5 years time. He will by then demonstrate his knowledge and undoubted talents, and an excellent record to match..

He is making his mark, his family have moved here, and he is enjoying life. Let's enjoy the ride with him.

McKenna comes across as a sensible character with his head screwed on. He is clearly enjoying his time here and result are going well. He embraces the structure we have here and I think Ashton definitely takes McKenna’s thoughts into account when doing transfer business. McKenna must also be thankful that we gave him his first shot at management, when he has been a coach for several years (albeit at much bigger clubs).

Having said that, loyalty is not exactly a given in football and the temptation to jump up a couple of levels and take a Premier League job will be appealing for any young, ambitious manager. He had been linked to Watford, which isn’t exactly an environment to set a legacy and get time. Brighton are a different kettle of fish, with a similar set up and ethos to Ipswich. Would McKenna want to step into the big shoes of Graham Potter? Hopefully not.

Hopefully we get a full season of McKenna-ball. It’s rare to actually look forward to Ipswich games as a fan in recent years and he has put together a really strong Town side that plays good, winning football. I’m quietly resigned to the likelihood that - if the results continue to impress - it’ll be a question of “when” not “if” McKenna takes a step up to a bigger club. If we achieve promotion this year and we can keep up the consistency and momentum, then McKenna will hopefully be in charge for the long term. He has the chance of cementing himself as one of the top managers here if he’s able to get us in the Premier League - but time will tell!
