Regardless of the margins and minutiae of the very top level we are nowhere near them. Are we really bothered by whether he can win us trophies? I would take a top half Premier League position for now.
I think there are lot of people (not on this Forum) looking for McKenna to fail and not seeing the positives of attracting such a well regarded coach down from one of the Big Four to a,frankly, struggling 3rd tier Club, who have a reputation in recent years as a graveyard for managers. Obviously money’s involved, but I feel he’s got at least as much to lose as us.Let’s try and get behind him from the start and have a bit of patience if it isn’t instant success.
Let's not forget the times either. Just turning up to training and travelling might be stressful for some players and managers ! A big pay cheque is not going to stop footballers and their families catching Covid.
If I was MA I’d have done the same though in that the cost or sacking PC last summer plus how bad it would look made it impossible. He kinda had to let him do well (everyone’s happy) or screw up (he’s evans man…) abs get rid. I can’t for the life of me imagine PC and MA had much in common given how they come across in interviews. so as U say, MA has got his way with a new upcoming coach and we’ll have to see now. It can’t get much worse after all. Can it….?
I think we should brace ourselves for things getting worse for a while before they start to get better,I might even move away from my standing prediction of 2-1 to Town in favour of a (possibly) heavy defeat tomorrow.
Dont do that BigAl and deprive us of our weekly laugh! I will go in advance for a rousing recovery and an uplifting season kickstarting.. 2-1
Well the reason they sacked Cook was because they still wanted a promotion push this season.... As others have said, prepared to give McKenna patience but am really disappointed that more patience wasn't shown with Cook, I understand we have to modernise but I still felt we had a chance of the playoffs this season and now I'm sceptical. It feels like we're starting over again. One thing the past couple of weeks has definitely shown is we are now Mark Ashtons Ipswich and it worries me the amount of power he has at the club. I feel he's been given a bit of a free ride here because we've had such an elusive owner with transfer taking forever and now we've got someone who loves the spotlight and bringing in loads of players, think he needs to wind it in a bit. Someone really needs to tell him to stop using 'I' and 'my' in interviews aswell, really winds me up...please use 'we'.
Much like Ferguson’s big money side getting walloped by a not so world class Man City in ‘89 eh? They did have Coops of course. Ridiculous.
It looks so promising but with all the false dawns we’ve suffered there’s no surprise the appointment is being treated with a degree of caution.I really hope it works out and he’s given the necessary time to make a difference.
Good 1st interview, honest, realistic, confident, believes this to be ideal post, shares his excellent coaching record and knows it is for long term. With a fresh energy also thinks anything is possible this season once we get back to winning ways. Lets give him time.
He clearly knows what he's talking about and has a very high level of coaching experience although didn't come across as warmest most charismatic of people but hopefully he's able to inspire the players. I really wish someone would tell Ashton to stop talking about himself and his team and start talking as though he is part of Ipswich Town, use 'we' as a club
Good point, itfcptc. One for the fans forum Q & A. He has a big ego, beyond the point of being self-confident.
