I've already said several times that both people I know personally and a lot of people on another football forum I'm on have spoken of it as fact, clearly my mistake for similarly speaking of it on here without evidence to back it up. I apologise for offending your dear self.
Who's angry ? Not me. Who's defensive ? It's an internet forum. Who said that ? The point is you say what you feel ( or spout other peoples opinions) and if they are unsubstantiated or stupid people will call you on it. You don't ever appear to recognize that. As I've already said. The player's interviewed in pre-matches, Ince's price, Lerner asset stripping, Powell's position against Wednesday, and others I've probably forgotten. Hell three posts ago I even admitted if sources closer to Powell didn't think he was an alcoholic I was likely wrong about that. You're ranting about me, and I don't know why. Is this because I mentioned I had argued earlier that Benitez was going to Toon?
Listen mate, part of it could be overlapping timing of posts and responses to them. Football matters ( all of your above points) are fair game for personal opinions. I may well agree or disagree - can't remember. My objection ( and I may well have not seen your retraction) is when people condemn someone without any personal knowledge. If they do that on a publicly available medium, with personal knowledge you had suggested you had, in my mind it is totally unacceptable. In fact, may well be borderline illegal . My comments stemmed from that. Regardless, if sources "closer to Powell" or otherwise give you input personally, this medium is not the place to air them. I made my point clearly in my first post. I was not subsequently ranting, only responding to you. I hope for your sake you can see the difference.
Ok. You were swearing and insulting me excessively for what I was saying to you, so I saw that as a rant, my apologies. I made a comment about Powell's issues with drinking when we were rumoured to be signing him - and there's well documented evidence of that. If the fact he was or wasn't an alcoholic is contentious, then I've already withdrawn it.
Two responses SydneyT. 1) I never abuse (swear at or insult) anyone, on here or anywhere else, intentionally. My sense of humour may well be acerbic, but it is tempered by the individual I am talking to. I assess my response to my knowledge of their reciprocal ability to accept my "jibes". You I categorize as "intransigent " and possibly humourless. As a result I tend to be forthright. Never a rant. Apologies if it came over that way. 2) Happy you've withdrawn your position on Powell's lifestyle. Making statements about your "first hand" knowledge about that ( hey, I may be using the wrong phrases, but it was certainly your intimation) is not good practice. In the pub maybe..not in a recordable public medium. OK, I'll add a third: 3) Give yourself & others a little slack when it comes to acceptance/denial of opinions. It's healthier to debate difference that way. I apologize for what may appear to be a lecturing old bastard spouting off.
And you call me patronising. I am well aware of the issues surrounding libel, and don't view remarks made on here as being in any danger in respect of that. Plenty of people say things on here that aren't true for one reason or another. I wasn't maliciously setting out to do anything but passing on knowledge I'd heard. I have a decent sense of humour in general, but the majority on here see relentless abuse as somehow humour, and people should lighten up and cope with the abuse. Sorry for not laughing in those situations. If you think calling me a 'pathetically narrow-minded, glory seeking "I'm in the know" individual' is just banter and me thinking it's a rant is me not having a sense of humour then to each their own.
Clearly not just banter. A simple statement, hardly a rant. Has bugger all about your sense of humour. It reflects your intolerant attitude. Suggesting that some older fellow not being able to get down to watch a City game in a pub in Sydney (or wherever it was) is not disrespectful or potentially abusive is also beyond your purview. ??? I asked if @BLUE_MOUNTAINS_BEAR was able to come down, don't think I said anything offensive in that exchange so no idea what the hell you're on about. I think you were at the time to make some snide comment about having no respect for elders and I had no clue what you meant at the time either. I have absolutely no idea what's worked you up so much, I've apologised several times and attempted to bury the hatchet but you're persisting with some made up nonsense. Not sure how much more of an olive branch I'm expected to extend. EDIT: Just re-read the initial post and I can understand where the offence came from. Apologies if it came across poorly Blue_Mountains_Bear, I phrased my question incredibly poorly in assuming you wouldn't be up for a catch up in Sydney at midnight.
