If we go down this season then Mick McCarthy doesn't take any of the blame for any results. He has performed a minor miracle to get us into a position to survive, just remember that
But he got us out of the mire and hasn't progressed from there, I'm certainly with you on the minor miracle, but if the unthinkable does happen then MM will have to take some (small) portion of the blame
Was going to write something similar KOPR. By the end of the season he will have been in charge for well over half of our games so certainly accountable to a degree.
Why not have a look at the league table at the point he joined us one more time. Accountable my arse. I see that we have a ticket promotion for the Hull game without the need for a Chief Executive at £200k to come out and explain why the club is doing it.
Sorry KOPR & SD but that my friends is complete Bollocks! We were virtually dead and buried when Mick arrived and he has inherited probably the worst Town side in living memory. 36 points out of 72 since he arrived so no blame should be attached to MM if the 'unthinkable' happens. The damage was already done before he arrived!
He shouldn't take much of the blame but both you JWM and Lancs has said he has made mistakes. Given the superb position he got us in, if we went down now I'd feel he should take some of the blame. He came in initially and did a superb job, he was exactly what we needed, then at the end of January his tactics changed, particularly against Huddersfield and he made a few mistakes in the transfer window. Replacing DJ with 3 strikers who've never really had a good scoring record, particularly in this division, releasing Scotland and also given Micks teams rely so heavily on wingers, not strengthening the wide positions was a mistake, but if he couldn't don't persist with 442!! If he keeps us up, he's done superbly well given we only had 7 points when he took over but given how well he did initially and the position he got us in, some of his mistakes coould return to haunt us. I really don't think I can forgive the guy if we go down playing the negative football like how we did against Huddersfield!!
The point we gained at Huddersfield will not be the one that will send us down! Criticising him for the DJ situation and bringing in McGoldrick who was the top scorer in League 1 is a little unfair to say the least. We don't know who MM targeted and we don't know all the goings on in the January transfer window and the financial constraints that he was put under! If you remember he wanted DJ to stay but the club decided that it couldn't afford to keep DJ! We should just be thankful that we still have more than a fighting chance of staying up and all post mortems are extremely premature! One thing is for sure that in Mick we have the best manager we could possibly get.
Huddersfield was a shocking display.! I do kinda agree with some of PTCs points, some games we have been a bit negative of late, just think we could have got a bit more out of a couple of games with a bit more adventure...They will only be viewed as mistakes if we go down, if we stay up then they were the correct decisions to make.! On the other hand, if you look at Florist away, we were still the better side at 10 men, and the more likely to score, again at Posh we had the better of the chances but got their keeper on a good day, both games also saw us not get 2 dead cert pens, small margins could have very big consequences...!
I find it just incredible that we are even having this conversation in the first place! We have what 9 games to go and there are some who are already getting ready to make a scape goat! Jeez I wish some would just get a grip on reality!
There's only so far you can progress with a particular set of players. What if, in a hypothetical world, you went 10 points clear with 10 games left and then had to play the top-10 sides, before going down? McCarthy's done a great job for you. Besides, you're already safe IMO
No scape goat being made JWM. I think most of us are very pleased to have Mick at the helm (I certainly am and can't wait for this season to be over and the next one to start) and if we get the same points per game return next season we will sit pretty in the top six. To say someone who is in charge of a team for over half a season isn't in some way accountable for the TOTAL points haul is absurd though. Saying the point at Huddersfield will not send us down is also absurd. ALL points dropped are to blame should the unthinkable happen, regardless of who's in charge. I'm surprised you can even speak with Micks dick in your mouth.
SD The point at Huddersfield was a point gained surely? Any points away from home are points gained! Cheers for the personal insult at the end mate, nice touch from a moderator!
Chill out JWM mate, guess I should've added a smiley to show I was only joking. Don't forget, I'm a regular poster just like yourself, I just have a few extra tools to help keep the board clean so please don't play on the moderator angle.
No worries SD you ****ing arsehole Honestly mate let us all wait until we know our fate at the end of the season before we start picking the bones out of it. I really think that if we had got rid of Jewell in the summer we would be in the top 6 instead of battling like we are to avoid relegation.
The more I reflect on the Huddersfield game the more I do see it as a point gained. That though is down to how poor we were on the day, a combination of poor performances and negative tactics IMO. I would also say that since that game our tactics have been more progressive, so I would suggest that MM has looked back at that game and probably realised that was one he got away with.!
But we wouldn't have got Mick had we got rid of Jewell in the Summer, I don't think he would've come here as he turned down other jobs!! Plus whoever was manager over the summer I think would've had the same problems in terms of recruitment!!
No worries SD you ****ing arsehole Phew!! and there was me thinking I would have to flex my moderator muscles and request a temporary ban for showing dissent to a mod. Glad we cleared that up. <doIneedasmileytoshowIamjoking> Agree with ptc, we might not have got Mick in the summer. I'm sure the big bonus offered to him would not have been there at that time either. Not so sure that Mick would've accepted the transfer policy of last summer had he been in charge though. Also agree with Hoppers that Mick has changed his approach slightly after the terriers match.
