When I read the title of your thread JR, I thought MM was considering tearing up his 1p5wich contract before the weekend <laugh>

that would be helpful if he is out, he has been very good in the past few games. in fact a few people have said he should be englands no.2 ahead of JR - not sure about that yet. Federici is a bit error-prone!

If we can get something there on Saturday it would be creditable. 3 wins and a draw in the last 4 games is as good as we have done in the top flight 9including cup games)and the momentum would be maintained with a point or better. It also keeps Reading winless and a bit adrift with Saints and Koo Pee Arr.

Is this the same Alex McCarthy we had on loan last season?

The one who caught the ball outside of the area, seemingly had holes in his hands and could just about kick outside of his own box??

He was referred too by some of our fans as 'Reading's work experience kid' and he had some howlers for us but pulled off some blinders too. I always thought he's go on and be a decent keeper but to talk about him as England's no.2 just shows the state of goalkeeping in this country as he's had a handful of decent games and an equal amount of average to poor ones......... (Probably all whilst on loan at Portman Road) <whistle>

.......one of those wins was not in the top flight, though it was against a top flight team in the cup.

Always thought Federici was a good goalkeeper, for whatever reason he was dropped this season and since he and his girlfriend have slated the club for it, I doubt he will play soon unless absolutely necessary.

I don't actually think McCarthy is great at all, good shot stopper but doesn't handle the ball very well which would suit us perfectly, so I hope he isn't injured!

Wouldn't disagree with your views!! He kept Reading in the game on several occasions against QPR on Sunday as you say.

I think a player on loan is not the criteria on which to judge a player. There are many factors at work, not least to personal one - a short-term upheaval from family and friends etc. Then some can adapt to a particular team, and not others. In McCarthy's case, one should also remember that he was on loan to Leeds Utd as well, and did an exceptional job there, in fact a permanent signing up north was being toyed with by the Leeds board I understand. Federici has done wonders for Reading in his time here, especially last season, but it's true he's suffered a few 'wobblies'. But we're all human. However, McCarthy has come in and done even better ...
