Has an attacking philosophy and likes to introduce young players into the team, also has an eye for a bargain (Puncheon, Clyne), as well as not being afraid to splash the cash (Ramirez, Rodriguez) More than anything, I like how he handled the Puncheon situation. This was a player who was so far from the first team, constantly loaned out and despised by fans. Adkins brought him back in and told him to get his head down and concentrate on his football, and now look at him. Jol could certainly learn some man management from him.
I'm not actually on Twitter. I've been debating it for a long while though, as I have a lot of bullshit to say and I could do with a change from FB.
Spot on, Soton has a good academy with many top class youngsters coming out of there. Although we are supposed to be focusing on bringing in young players it feels that is taking longer.
Please no. I'm not saying he's a bad manager (he's not) or that he hasn't got a decent track record (he has), but his pre and post match interviews do my head in. He sounds like he's swallowed a business management text book at times. Listening to that week in week out would be too ghastly for words. This is another good reason for Jol to stay!
Sorry about crossing threads. As Bandit and Madness say Southampton do integrate the youngsters well - certainly better than we do - and Adkins has to take credit for that. The change hasn't halted any transfer deals. Vegard Forren has signed up. "Vegard Forren has given Southampton fans some cheer by signing for the club on the day they harshly sacked manager Nigel Adkins. The centre back was set to move to Liverpool on trial but the south coast side acted quickly to bring him to St Mary's on a three-and-a-half year deal. Saints desperately needed to boost their defensive options and this £4.2million acquisition will be viewed as a relative coup for the club." Not saying I want Jol out Cap, but Adkins would be a good choice as replacement. His interviews are a poor reason for not wanting him to come. I found Hughes's interviews bland but as long as the results on the pitch were good, then who cares? I'm also sick and tired of Jol's excuses 'We have injuries, we lost Dempsey etc' but if he can turn around our poor form then that's the only thing that matters.
Actually this interview is very good and sets the record straight. I have to say that dropping JAR shows some character and has to continue. Also the point he makes that if players do up some effort will be better.
please log in to view this image The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off today. No Diarra of course. However, as well as our potential signing, Derek Boating (Ghana), there are a few ex-Fulham players to keep an eye on : John Pantsil (Ghana) Kagisho Dikgacoi (South Africa) Rafik Halliche (Algeria) Hameur Bouazza (Algeria) Here is a link to a local site if you want to follow the games and stories - http://mg.co.za/report/africa-cup-of-nations-2013
I just looked up Barry Hayles on wikipedia to answer some comments on another thread and discovered that he and I share a birthday! I already knew that I shared a birthday with Nick Hornby, which I was delighted about, but this goes on to a whole new level.

There has been a lot of praise, and rightly so, in the papers about Bradford getting to Wembley. However, when I saw this headline, I thought "Oh no, here we go!" Cup giant-killings: The biggest London shocks Surpisingly maybe, but we're not included and of course I won't remind anyone of our 'little horrors'. After losing out on Battersea Power Station (to the QPR Chairman's Malaysian chums), Chelsea have had another knock back in their search for a new 'home' -
That means they are still looking in the wrong borough for a permanent place. What if they change their name into Hammersmith? Do you think the council might re-consider? Lol
