DR, saying that Barton was an 'honest' person, which I in no way believe he is, does that excuse him for everything he's done? Would it be okay to murder someone yet plead guilty in court? The guy is honestly worse than John Terry because he takes the moral high ground on so many occasions when he has absolutely no morals.
Wow, that got you going, Bandit. While I'm no defender of Joey Barton, I doubt anyone would ever accuse him of literally, or metaphorically, taking the moral high ground in any situation unless he's sharing a taxi with El Haj Douif. And since you brought up John Terry, I'd argue that Barton is nothing like him. John Terry is a liar and a hypocrite, publicly projecting moral superiority like Nietzsche's Ubermensch while privately nailing his teammates girlfriends and racially abusing opponents. In contrast, Joey Barton is a rat and he freely admits it. Now, while admitting that you're a rat doesn't make you a saint or even a squirrel, at least he's not delusional about who and what his is, which is more than I can say for John Terry.
Just read David Hamilton's book - It's an ok quick read. However it's a bit thin and just when we got to some good bits it was all over in a few paragraphs.
Thought the same GeraS. I was liking the stuff about Ernie Clay and then he didn't finish the story. Likewise reading about his exploits in the lift thing at the Final in Hamburg, I wanted to know why on earth Fulham were introduced to the music of Dead Eye'd Peas (dreadful !) but nothing. Enjoyed it though as a whimsical read, with some decent chuckles. Although, he pinched the gag about Peter Mellor saying to Alec Stock after the 1975 Final. "Sorry boss, I should have kept my legs closed" and Stock replying, "No, you're mother should have". The punch line, at least originally, was credited to Bill Shankly to Ray Clemence. Hi, I've started two threads on the Everton board to keep up with decisions we've had and not had this season. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/183949-Decisions-that-went-for-us - in our favour http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/183947-Decisions-we-should-have-had - in the oppositions favour If you can thing of any in our match together that I've missed then comment in the thread please Thank you.
The most hillarious blog, ever, has been posted by a QPR fan about the irrelevance of Fulham. Methinks he protests too much : http://steveheard82.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/my-take-on-qpr-v-fulham-rivalry.html?showComment=1355261807566#c5550367437789228221 As a black cab driver goodness knows how he copes with London traffic, although I have a terrible suspicion that he actually doesn't.
The level of Hypocrisy in the article was laughable (well it made me laugh) - with a huge chip on his shoulder!
Mmm thats embarrassing, we are not all like and agree with this person, taxi drivers eh! All the best for Saturday, may the best team win, I can only hope its us
Deary me, I wish I could take that seriously! It's folks like him, Nort and ELLERS who make me hate QPR. The daft **** even wheeled out the attendances argument! As if that actually made a difference. I know no Fulham fans who gave a **** about QPR before last season. Happily though, their crowing all Summer has left them with a large amount of egg on their faces. I wish nothing but the worst for these fans. Fans like Whereeverilaymyhearth deserve credit though, for sure - your gobby mates precede you!
Mrs Captain is due to do a batch of Christmas biscuit baking tonight, bringing back unhappy memories of the sudden, spectacular exit from the Europa last season. I'm glad we're not playing until the weekend.
I'm alone in the house with them until I go to pick the boys up from school at 1.15. I don't think there's any chance of them surviving until kick off time! And I'll eat them in a decidedly non-celebratory mood of funereal gloom, just to be on the safe side.
I doubt if going public quite like this is the way to motivate players (and I'm afraid I'd always doubt 'Arry's motives) but there's something to admire in his outburst after their defeat today -
Strange sacking by Notts Forrest of their manager. The owners say they have approached an ex-PL manager - any suggestions who that might be ? Ah, but hang on, Blackburn have now got rid of their manager (of 52 days) - does this mean it will be a dog fight between the two clubs ? Both say they have premiership 'ambition' !!
Another strange sacking today. Why sack Adkins after drawing at Chelsea, being unbeaten in 5 games? Also, you know what really ****s me off? People using hash tags anywhere else but Twitter.
Just mind-numbingly stupid, in my opinion. He got them back to back promotions and competitive in the Premier League. And then they replace him with a young Argentine guy most have never heard of with no experience in English football? Madness, absolute madness. #agreewithbidley
What's your Twitter Bids? I'll give you a cheeky follow. I was speechless when I saw Adkins trending on Twitter, and feared the worst. Cortese is a lot like Abramovich in the sense that he will appoint who he wants despite what the fans want. If Southampton go down under the new guy, Cortese will come under intense pressure. This is a huge gamble from him. If Jol does indeed walk at the end of the season we could do a lot worse than Adkins. Get him to nab Lallana too.
