Is anyone going to watch this? The worst kept secret in the world is that this is all about money. Not over keen on McGregor, but Mayweather is a joke. He has handpicked most of his fights. A younger Pacquiao would have slaughtered him, but Mayweather would never have taken the fight. For me, Mayweather is the worst thing to happen to boxing in a long time. I hope McGregor decks the mouthy ****. Having said that, it'll probably be a draw, followed by the inevitable rematch. Me, cynical? Never!
There was another thread on this fiasco, but I couldn't find it. Notice that McGregor was 154lbs at the weigh in but claimed he would be close to 170lbs for the fight tonight. How does that work? My son will be watching, he's a big mixed martial arts fan, but even he says this is a farce. I don't like Mayweather much, but I hope he flattens McGregor in the first 10 seconds. Which given Mayweather normal approach is highly unlikely, unless it becomes immediately apparent that McGregor just can't box.
Yes, i must agree with you sb. Im an old union man who likes boxing and proper wrestling ( not that clown wrestling that they do in USA) For me all the martial arts are clowning too. Hope that Mayweather end that farce at once it started.
Although this is a joke contest the business model is interesting. To save disappointment please be aware that I have already copyrighted the following: England rugby v England soccer at ice hockey Jess Ennis to come out of retirement to compete in the new pentathlon - golf, clay pigeon shooting, dressage, 10m diving and table tennis. Race horses v top class greyhounds at synchronised swimming The Brownlee brothers take on Andy Fordham and Phil Taylor at the javelin. And so on, ad nauseum.
It's a bit like a Chelsea v Man Utd cup final - I don't really want either of them to win. It will be on in my house, because my daughter's other half has bought it, but I can't really be arsed to make the effort.
If McGregor goes all out and tries to knock Mayweather out in the first 3 or 4 rounds then he has a slim chance, if it goes on longer then that then Mayweather will pick him to pieces. Don't like either of them really but like Mayweather slightly less and have a few quid on an early rounds win for McGregor so hoping he'll pull off an upset!
Quite stupidily, I have paid a score to watch this farce in the hope that there is an unlikely double knockout and both fighters retire!!
Mayweather got the 'lion's share' of the money and that was all he was interested in. You get the feeling he could have won earlier if he wanted to but 10 rounds made it look more of a contest. Some of MacGregor's moves looked a bit suspect and a proper fight ref would have been warning him but I suppose they had to give him a bit of leeway. Still, Mayweather can now go and spend more time with his money...
