"QPR boss Neil Warnock is in the race for Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard after the Robins officially declared he was for sale.
Warnock is keen to add to his squad in the New Year and, although his priorities are defenders, he also wants to add to his strikeforce as the club suffer with a lack of goals and he has been linked with Maynard who has netted 45 goals in 113 games for the struggling City side.
City had hoped he would sign a new deal but that is not going to happen and rather than see him walk away for nothing in the summer they have decided to sell him instead.
City boss Derek McInnes admitted the club were left with no option.
"For some time now Nicky has had a very good offer on the table, showing the club's ambition and our desire to secure his future with us beyond the end of this season," he told the club's official website.
"Nicky has made it clear he does not wish to enter into any more discussions at this time.
"As much as I would like to keep Nicky at the club beyond the end of this season, we are left in an unenviable situation.
"We must protect the club and, therefore, we have no alternative but to seek offers for Nicky during the forthcoming January transfer window." "
