Brilliant news. Maya is the model professional, never rocks the boat, and works his ass off for the team. Yes he does have a brain fart, every now and again, but seems to truly "Give a ****" My wife's favourite too! At least I now know, who's name is going on her Saints shirt, unlike mine!!! Lol
Mario, Wes & now this. Very happy with this window. One question though, were we waiting for his b'day? Burying bad news? Saving a few months worth of higher wage? Waiting for the first week of the new season is rather strange.
Reminds me of this article from the time of his last contract extension: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...success-it-is-not-enough-for-me-10107108.html Blazing a bit of a trial for Asian footballers too, which makes it all the more deserved
First ever Japanese player to come to England and get a contract renewal. First ever Japanese player to come to England and get a second contract renewal. Go Maya! Brings him up to touching distance of 10 years with Saints, with being contracted here from 2012-2021.
I love Maya and I've always been a fan. I'm not blind enough to think he is one of the best CBs in the league or anything like that and I'd honestly always be happier if he wasn't our lead CB. I'm happy with him as a number 2 CB. However what I absolutely love about this new contract is that for the first time for a long time, both player and club have been honourable and loyal (not just when it's the best player and the biggest club). It's fabulous. Yes I want Saints to progress and win things, yet I also like the little things that happen that remind us of who we are and how things should be done. He's going to be like our new Nick Holmes; never the greatest, always a gentleman, always there when needed; do anything for you and surprisingly missed when not there. Thanks Maya. Thanks Saints. #goMaya

Missed this news because of a computer crash (don't you love 'em) but had I seen it I would have posted something like this albeit less eloquently, of course. Love the Nick Holmes comparison. Good call. Like you, FLT, I like the occasional reminder about who we are as a club. Doing things the Saints way still matters. It's what makes us different; it's what has earned us respect from other fans. When you support a club that isn't going to win silverware year after year these things matter.
