Thanks Maya, that's raised my hope for humanity. Needed given the ongoing nonsense the world seems bound up with.

Great gesture. I think with the amount of money footballers get paid that this sort of thing should be written into their contracts. Yeah we will pay you £50k a week but out of the £2.6 million you earn a year £26k will get donated to a local charity of your choice.

I don’t agree. They do earn ridiculous amounts of money, but it has to be their choice. Where do you draw the line? Somebody always earns more than someone else.

I'm only on about footballers. They are all doing their dream Job and earning a crazy amount of money for the privilege. Most of the top boys have their own charities and foundations any way and give back so much more. I don't think its unreasonable for an established elite footballer who's on good money to give some thing back to local charities. Maybe there needs to be a connection built first so maybe after a player has been at a club for more than 3 or 4 years.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for them to donate and I’d like them all to do it, I just think it must be their choice and not dictated.

Yeah good point. Personally I feel if a player has earned a good living out of a club for 3 or 4 years and he wasn't willing to donate 1% of his wages to Charity for a new undoubtedly improved contract then that player is a bit of a twat.

Ok don't make it compulsory make it an option that everyone is aware of, then if the player declines he's done nothing wrong but everyone would know.

How does your idea differ from normal taxation? The whole point of charity is that it comes from a person’s good will.

No need to say sorry. I am probably completely wrong. I am just surprised that we don't hear about this thing more often in the football world. I understand it's a great gesture from Yoshi but it only comes across as a great gesture because it is out of the ordinary rather than the norm.

I fully understand that as i said above i'm just surprised this sort of thing isn't more normal with the money in football today.

I’m sure the sentiment of your statement is appreciated by many. It’s not like this is an election policy after all.

I suspect this sort of thing is more commonplace than you think, just because we don't hear about it, it doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.

This is the case in my experience. They may not always publicly donate directly/routinely to charities as Maya is doing right now, but lots of footballers that I know of make financial commitments to help people who need help. Quite a few of them actually ask for anonymity from the families/groups they assist.

I think the 'affordable' level of contribution and the fact he's gone public is probably with an eye on the fact that it could well inspire other players to do the same

What a great example he is :emoticon-0152-heart
