I'd just say that he hasn't necessarily come on leaps and bounds this season... I get what you mean, but he has always been a good CB. Some Fans made him a scapegoat which was sad and short sighted.

We do have a lot of sad short sighted fans (though probably no more than other clubs). Some cretin behind me booed when Clasie came on against Everton last Sunday. Hope he watched the game on Wednesday, the clown.

I think the issue Yoshida has had is that he has rarely had a long run in the team and I think some fans underestimate how hard it is to go from not playing any competitive matches to suddenly being thrown in. I think a lot of the mistakes he was making over the last few years were due to a lack of match sharpness rather than a lack of talent or effort.

This season with more rotation he's now playing competitive matches almost every (mid)week and I think it shows in how consistent he has been.

Of course they are short sighted. Masturbation makes you blind. I was told that at my posh boys school (oh the delights of the grant maintained sector). Oh God, linking two strands of the thread before I've had a drink. Clearly no end to my talents.

I suspect your "cretin" sees what he sees. Booing of a Saints player is a no-go. Booing Clasie is unreal. I have never seen him give anything but 100%. That's not to say he's always effective, but you can't fault him for effort. As for Maya, he could become our next SKD. Remember some of his howlers when he first came? Grew into a cult hero.

I'd agree to an extent.

Like you, I've always been a big fan of his and hate the hard time he's been given.

Maybe leaps and bounds is a tad strong but he's certainly gone up a notch imo. Just seems so much more composed on the ball and less rash. Must be coming from Virgil ;)

Who knows though, maybe it's just confidence?

Remember back in the 90s? The days of Pallister and Bruce, Adams and Keown/Bould? The days when commentators and pundits continually said defenders get better with age! They still say it all the time. Portugal just won the euros and Fonte was their youngest centreback. Terry was the best CB in the league the season before last.

Maya is 28 so therefore is at or near his peak now :)
