Yankee uses the term 'Park the bus' correctly' and if any of you check the video footage of the game, time after time Cardiff put 10 men behind the ball and packed their own box when we attacked them, and that is parking the bus in front of goal with out doubt, for Dai to say there is no such thing, is wrong, because this term has been used for such negative tactics by weaker oppositions for decades. To Park the bus in association football refers to a defensive style of play whereby a team attempt to restrict the opposition by playing many players behind the ball with limited or no attacking play. Such a style of play is known for making it very difficult for the opposition to score. The term can be considered pejorative and has negative connotations of being a boring and unattractive style of play, however effective it may be. One example of this style of play is the Greek campaign in UEFA Euro 2004, in which they won whilst scoring an average of 1.17 goals per game, the lowest average in the tournament's history. Many sources cite then Chelsea manager José Mourinho as the first to coin the phrase in English, in reference to a Tottenham side that played very defensively at Stamford Bridge in a 2004â05 FA Premier League match against Chelsea. Disappointed at Spurs' tactics, he was quoted as saying: "As we say in Portugal, they brought the bus and they left the bus in front of the goal. I would have been frustrated if I had been a supporter who paid £50 to watch this game because Spurs came to defend. There was only one team looking to win, they only came not to concede - it's not fair for the football we played". . José Mourinho himself had used this phrase while coaching in Portugal before moving to England in 2004. As I said earlier Dai is way off on this and completely wrong, and I'm sure I'll listen to José Mourinho before Dai any time of the day, Yankee is 100% correct in his analysis, as for aber, well does he understand the game, if he did he would have offered more than what he did? It's a problem that we need to find a solution too, because it's part of the problem of our lack of cutting edge, as more and more teams are getting boddies back to flood their own box, sad but true!.................
Jesus Phil that's the most I've seen in a row! Re: Parking the bus. You're complaining that we got all our men behind the ball when we didn't have possession. Isn't that just called good defending? Would you prefer we left 9 up front because it's obviously unfair that we might be able to actually stop the ball going into our net? It's not like we got the ball in a tackle and just launched it up the pitch for you to come at us again, you were just more able than us and got it at us quicker meaning we couldn't really get out of our own half. That's the difference between parking the bus and just defending in numbers. Malky changed the way we pressed to get the ball back so we could go on and attack. I think the only time you should use the phrase "parking the bus" is when a team has no intent on getting past the half way line. We obviously did because we had just as many shots on/off target (roughly) as you, possession wasn't too much in your favour and we had more corners. It just took us a little time to get into the game.
"Parking the bus" is not a new phenomena. It has been adopted by teams since time immemorial, and was being used in U.K. long before Maurinho appeared on the scene. Invariably adopted by visiting teams who were in awe of their opponents. "Parking the bus" AT HOME,however, would indicate a complete lack of confidence, etc.,in the ability of the home side's players to compete on any level. A general indication that a home defeat was anticipated.
look, i'd be more concerned by the fact your players didnt give a **** about the fact they were playing in a derby, they seemed more occupied thinking about their bank balance then getting back into the game, go suck on a lemon you bitter old fogey...... dont know what game you were watching sunshine but 'Invariably adopted by visiting teams who were in awe of their opponents.' , ' indicate a complete lack of confidence, etc.,in the ability of the home side's players to compete on any level. ' complete and utter drivel.....
Parking the bus impossible and one big excuse, accept the fact that malky outfoxed laudrup with a gameplan that worked..We failed to take our chances and our commitment was poor. Parked the bus indeed...you need to call for a taxi..
Not to dismiss the rest of the article, which makes good points, but this one in particular is salient. The mystery of Bony must be resolved. I call it a mystery because the "special sessions" must be addressing something specific, but what exactly could that be. And more importantly, Bony's "problem" is not a one-way-street, but a two-way-street. Setting aside physical, mental and wear/tear issues, Bony has adjustments to make to our style, and the other players on the field need to learn how to leverage the immense attributes that Bony carries on to the field - his strength, his leap, his shot, his ability to head the ball and so on. This situation seems similar to something I heard many years ago when Toshack retired from international football and was replaced by our Alan Curtis. Toshack is reported to have told Curt that he was the Wales #9 now and that he should tell the other players where and how he wanted the ball played - if there's one thing you can bank on Toshack made sure they knew how to play the ball for him. The Bony / Michu "conflict" is somewhat similar except that Michu is still on the field. Bony is going to have to assert himself and what has worked for Michu in the #9 role in the past may not be the best pattern to follow for Bony. Michu's absence is going to provide everybody a chance to learn and become comfortable with new patterns of play, and hopefully those patterns will stick when Michu returns and he and Bony can realize the promise we all expect with them both on the field.
I know, this site is getting a bloody pain, much like those parked buses!.................. Dai we've been calling for a Taxiiiiiiiiiiidermist for you for a long time!......... please log in to view this image
tbh ivor he did try but it came with rose tinted specs....which often gets in the way of truth.....I`ll say sorry if he doesn't like criticism>>>>>>>>SORRY YANK.....me bad we did not park no bus and if you think we would should just let you win and not use our strengths then im afraid you are in the wrong game.............how the hell did we score a goal if we didn't come out of our half, how many corners did each team have, how many shots did both teams have>>>>>>them are the truths however you try and dress it up. as 2 your question about myself dude.......im pretty good ta butty, skint but happy>>>>im not a big fan of the crap in the prem tbh.....more drama than the worth of it/more cheating than quality half the time..........other than that im sure the kids are enjoying it....................anyway how the devil is yourself ivor? hope you and your family are all well butty>>>>im sure your over the derby day result, not the best of games as normal....I hate derby games all a load of bollocks these days....2many eyes on us for a good old battle if you ask me.....anyway take care butty, good 2 hear from you
Don't mind criticism at all when it's based on something substantive; otherwise it's empty hot air and not worth my attention. I suggest you try counting the number of players Cardiff lined up across the edge of their box in the first half and listen to the TV commentary just in case you can't count high enough. I also posted, perhaps in a second post, that the game was one of two different halves. Each demonstrating a separate approach at shutting us down. The first illustrated park the bus. The second illustrated a high press. Both very effective and the latter getting you closer to our goal. A solid header from a set piece and the good fortune that young Shelvey didn't have the discipline to play his role enabled you to score. That you couldn't even put a decent shot on goal from a free-kick with our RB between the posts makes a statement all by itself; if Rangel hadn't been so overwhelmed by the situation he could have caught it.
He's got more class than that. He would have done this............
credit where credit is due, Young caulker the only real bit of quality on the pitch with Bellers and he used his skill to out jump our defenders and score a quality goal. Fair play to him also for not celebrating with his teammates out of respect tor his mates on our side....Loads of respect to him for that...
I know you live in a country where football is played with an egg.....but come on dude>>>games go like this forever and a day.....so why try and make out we didn't know how 2 play you>>>>when it was clear malky had sussed you out>>>>not my fault but your managers fault for being so one dimensional.......we defended first half and then went at you in the 2nd>>>>>wow never seen that tactic before .........yanks and soccer hey. ps whens shelvey getting banned for his antics>>>>shame on your club for allowing such continued actions ......maybe he was bitter because taylor almost snapped him in half with a tackle. by the way it looks like a regular set up in this first half clip>>>>even el pitbullis in your half.....sorry my mistake we only had eight players in your half in this clip>>>>>I must have edited it init
did you not see el pitbull the motm in many Cardiff fans and Swansea fans(Aberdare lads) eyes....what tv signals do you lot have en cause it not the same game that I watched.
Have a look at what Jonjo did when he "was nearly snapped in half with a tackle"........................
I did and the only thing of note after this tackle was his swimaway antics>>>>>you must be so proud of him he wouldn't want big sam bursting into fits of laughter again would he>>>>but I get your take if it was chico.....the game would have been stopped for an air ambulance 2 take him away.
After "nearly getting nearly snapped in half by a tackle" he got up, didn't moan and got on with his job. But you don't want to comment on that <talk> You want to talk about diving? Have a look at Campbell after Vorm "assaulted" him. Now that's a f***** dive
