Have to say he's giving very straight answers. Good to hear him say that no player will leave that he doesn't want to leave.
Because after the last two days I want him to give me a cuddle, pat my head and tell me everything is going to be alright!
comment at the bottom of the youtube comments says that there is a rumour Di Maria is having a medical. How unlikely is this? lol
So in summary, as far as the team is concerned, nothing has changed. I look forward to all the hysterical journalists correcting themselves in giant print tomorrow.
Seemed very defensive to me on any questions to do with Leibherr and any medium to long term future, also (very un-subtly) tried to avoid questions about going back on what he said about leaving in May, but it would appear that rumours that Cortese persuaded him to stay could be true.
Note that David encouraged... go on..! But he didn't. In front of the media, Poch is like a baby with water-wings on, taking his first abortive attempts at swimming. Can't blame him, because there are sharks in this particular pool.
Summary of Mauricio Pochettino's press conference: - First of all I want to show my complete gratitude to Nicola Cortese, on behalf of me, my staff and our families. - He (Cortese) is the man who brought me to Southampton and showed his complete faith in me. - Eight months ago when this thing was happening we were finishing my first season, I did say I would leave. - The situation is now completely different. We are in the middle of a process. It would make no sense to leave. - I have spoken to Nicola about my decision, and I have no plans to leave the club. - What's quite clear is I have a very good relationship with Nicola Cortese. He agrees with my decision to stay too. - Nicola Cortese asked me to do just one thing, and that was to try to win on Saturday. - I do not know why Cortese decided to leave. I found out just like the rest of you, last night. - It was a surprise to me too, as well as the staff here. - I spoke to Katharina just five minutes before this. She pledged her full trust and support to me and my staff. - Katharina not only showed her support to me, but to all of the staff here. She just wanted to see me and say hi. - I cannot answer that question, on Shaw's future. Luke Shaw has a contract here, and it's a question for the new chairman to answer. - I am unaware of any bids for Luke Shaw. - I have just spoken to her. It was hello... and goodbye. She just transmitted her full support for the club. - It's clear we are all talking about the same thing, which distracts us from the game on Saturday. - It's human nature for our minds to be elsewhere. We all had different relationships with Nicola. - We are all sad to hear of his departure. I spoke to the players ahead of the announcement due to the rumours. - There's something I'd like to add. When Nicola offered me my contract, he told me to always be 100% professional. - That is what makes Nicola Cortese stand-out, and he is a stand-out guy. - I think it's too soon to talk about my contract. I signed here for two years. I have a responsibility to the club. - I only had five minutes to speak to her. She told me that we have her full support and she wants the club to be stable. - Katharina does not want this to negatively affect the club. - It's too soon to talk about players. We will see in the future how the tasks are unfolded. - I am sure someone will be appointed to run the club and to deal with bids or interest in players. - I want to make one thing clear to you: no one at Southampton is for sale. And I mean, no one. - No player that I do not want to leave, will be leaving this club. - The vision of the club is what attracted me. Cortese's vision was so good that he managed to attract me here! - It's not a question that I need to answer, it's a question for the owner to answer. - All I need to focus on is doing the work I have done so far, and continue that for the rest of the season. - The game on Saturday is very important for this club and for our supporters. We must now focus for Saturday.
Good man Mauricio. Must have been a body blow to him. Still, I did get the impression that he would be unlikely to stay for a long period.
I read all that as "I don't really have a Scooby what's going on either, but all things being equal I'm carrying on". Clearly has a huge amount of affection for Nicola too and is gutted he's gone though.
you could argue that in saying that he has engineered a legitimate way out were say luke shaw to be sold.
or adding pressure on KL basically saying if you want me to stay as manager then you better not sell anyone without me agreeing. He did quickly correct the 'no-one is for sale' to 'noone will be sold that I want to stay'
Where's that Skate (1898) that said there was no way that Poch would stay?..... please log in to view this image Bwahahaha.....WTFILN
